Critical Jack Vs. Critical+ (Dinafem)

Thanks for doing this thread, I've often wondered about the difference between those two strains and wished someone had done a side-by-side grow. Did you end up preferring one strain over another?

awsome thread just spent 30 min reading it.
yes, very awesome thread, one of the very best on rollitup.

I have been growing an indoor plant by sunlight but have not known what it is...after seeing the pics on this thread I think mine might be a Critical but not sure if it's Jack or + ....opinions please

Pics: 1st youngster, 2nd, starting to bud, 3rd most recent) PS: I'm green, so please forgive me if I'm totally off base

Hey man, I'd say it looks more like critical +. It has a very similar structure to the critical + I just ran. If she turns out to have a great flower to leaf ratio, and has lots of long single bladed sugar leaves, then that will help indicate its genetics. I found the critical jacks had a significantly lower flower to leaf ratio and/ or much shorter, fatter and generally multi-bladed sugar leaves.

Thanks for reading the thread, I'll be posing final weight in a day or two when I get time, and shortly after the first smoke reports :)

Well done mate they look potent, nice job on the trimming as well. Cant wait to here the weights when their done drying. Respect
Thanks Kush, cant wait for the curing to be over and properly smoke them cured. I've had a good smoke of the plants now and have been enjoying it big time. The flavour is only just beginning to come through to some extent now though, still a few weeks to cure before I can do a proper smoke report. I'll be posting the dry weight in a day or two, should have got around to it but been low on time.

No problem amigo, I think I preferred the actual growing of Critical+. I also think Critical+ had a better flower:leaf ratio, but as I'm sure my dry weight recordings tomorrow will confirm, It seems a little less productive as Critical Jack. Trimming C+ was very easy, and trimming the CJ was pretty hard tbh so again for ease of grow C+ wins.

Until I cure the stuff for another few weeks and have a proper smoke of each one I cant reliably comment on how they smoke. Its really the most important part after all. I've been smoking some of my harvest and can say that the weed, so far, does not impart any kind of couch lock whatsoever. Both strains are very high enducing at this time. I love the stuff, its very much an all day smoke in my books.

<Final Weigh in>

I weighed it all up again a yesterday, every bud is now at dry weight and into the curing process. I'm only briefly opening the containers every day and am keeping them in a fairly cool place. The weed is now smelling proper, and is now becoming a very flavourful smoke, all 4 of the plants. Unfortunately I am already smoking the weed even though it could do with a cure first, amateur I know. To put it simply, smoking it is saving me much time and money, no chasing down and subsequently paying stingy dealers. At the end of the day I understand that its business to them.

Onto the weighing. A few things to note before hand

CJ3 got bud rot and I lost what was probably 1/4 ounce to it, and have smoked the salvage from it as well, again about another 1/4 ounce.

In addition I have been smoking little bits from each strain, say about 3-4g a plant so far.

Also I cleared out some popcorn before harvest...sigh this list is longer than I first anticipated.

I will not be including this accounted for bud that I have smoked. Instead I will depict what I had left at the time of weighing and also make a seperate end estimate including this 'phantom' bud :)

I gave 1ounce of C+ to a family member already so it is missing from the pictures, the remainder of the C+ is in the pics though so by adding 28 to the number displayed under the C+ bag you get the final weight.

---------------
Drum Roll
---------------
Final weights
Critical+ (70days) = 50grams
Critical Jack 1 (69days) = 62grams
Critical Jack 2 (69days) = 58grams
Critical Jack 3 (69days) = 45grams
----------------------------------
total 215grams
----------------------------------

Final weights + estimated smoked/lost bud
Critical+ (50+3.5) = 53.5grams
CJ1 (62+3.5) = 65.5grams
CJ2 (58+3.5) = 61.5grams
CJ3(BudRot 14+45)= 59grams
-------------------------------
total 239.5grams
-------------------------------

There you have it folks. 215grams is the bud I'm left with, 239.5 is the best estimate of the actual yield though, and honestly I was pretty conservative with the estimates. The bottom line is these autos are very easily capable of 2 Zips a pop. Next time I will be aiming for 3.

To conclude this rambling post I will highlight something interesting. The highest yielding plant, Critical Jack No1, was not only the shortest of the four plants, but was also the one that I brutally supercropped (by accident). It was almost like an optical illusion, had no clue it was going to win. It was the numerous huge sidebranches that did it. Happy accident I guess.

(oh yeah and some really dull proof pics of my 'final weigh in', not to be mistaken with my estimated yeild)

It is sad to see this grow come to an end... Only cause I'm not smoking that super frosty delicious, heavy dank you made! LOL! GREAT FUCKING JOB, MysticMorris! I will be getting some of these beans shortly. You, Sir are a Scholar and a Gentlemen. Good day. *Crunch* Crunch*

I've genuinely enjoyed posting this for you guys. If it wasn't for you folks checking in on me and offering support I would have got no enjoyment out of this at all. I really appreciate it everyone, and am very chuffed that you have enjoyed reading and posting as well.

It is my sincere wish that I could roll up a fat one of this stuff and pass it around the forum for you to smoke and experience, but well everything is stacked against us. Geography, stupid laws, and well you know what I mean. Awesome you're thinking of going for one of these strains, I can firmly stand behind these genetics and know you are going to be very happy with the bud you grow. While this grow is coming to an end, another is vegging on the horizon....

Peace MM

Very nice writeup, great journal overall. Be sure you journal your next grow! Ive enjoyed reading it very much, good job old bean.
Cheers man, Its been awesome to have you all here following my activities :) I have 4 photoperiod plants in early veg just now and am contemplating journaling it. My only issue is lack of free time so I'm still thinking on it. OG kush (Dinafem), Lemon Skunk (DNA) and SSSDH (I think its Reserva Privada, I'll check and probably have to come back and edit this hehe)

Great hearing on the Critical+. This White Widow Auto is wailing. Had to stake and tie her today as she was beginning to tilt over like my drunk buddy at midnight. Pistils all over. Sending for a cooltube so I can put my HPS back over her and the Vertigo for the flowering. The MH is kicking them all good right now. Great job and thread, bud.

I have been watching and reading your thread since the begining as I have gotten rid of all my other genetics and only grow the Critacal + (dinafem)... I did this because it was the easiest and least stressed plant I ever grew... Also the buds are dense and dry properly without molding or musking during the cure. I was hurt at first when you said the critical + was under performing compared to the others but I knew she would make a come back:) She tends to start very slow its her nature. Your plant is almost identical to my Critical +. nice cola and very strong side branches that can actually support the weight of the dense buds. She has been a pleasure for me to grow and watch you grow as well. Previously I was growing the dope, Millenium bud from Dr. Green thumb and Tahoe Og from cali connection. Now its only Critical+ for me, at least for now;)

It would be great if you could start a journal once you enter flowering, thats when it starts to get interesting! Peace man and I can't wait for the next install WHEN you decide to do your next journal.

Lots of people make journals with just flower shots, but I like to check out the entire grow or it just isn't really worth it IMO. Great job Morris! ...give this man a round of applause; good read, good read.

Hey bro, I just wanted to let you know that Critical Jack (Dinafem) is a U.F.O. (freeby) right now at the Attitude. ...Have you heard much about "Dinachem"?

The CJ seeds arent exactly cheap so snap up any freebies when you can, thats how I got my first CJ seed. Well spotted. I think journaling veg is a good thing as well, however with an auto the time flies by faster. If you start journaling a photoperiod from seed you are making a much longer commitment. My next round of plants will have had about 8-9weeks of veg - I'm trying Uncle Ben's topping technique - so if you add that to the 8-10weeks flower and the 2-4weeks of harvest/cure and whatnot, it becomes a marathon thread. Pros and cons to both ways really.

I was reading about Dinachem the other day when I was on the website and must say I'm curious. I mean, I've read alot of accounts of the new line of autos being amazing. If it werent for this positive feedback I might wonder if Dinafem is just churning out too many new strains. Dank untill proven Un-dank though :)
