Crossbreeding Question

So I'm tokin' with my buddy who thinks he knows his shit when it comes to weed. Most of the time he doesn't but today he brought up a crossbreeding technique that I've heard of before, but sounds like it wouldn't work.
Anyways to the point: he said that you can crossbreed two plants by cutting them down the middle and then either stapling or duct-taping the two different sides together. It sounds like bullshit, as I would think you would get nothing but two dead plants, but I've heard of this from somewhere else so I'm wondering if anyone's tried it.

Probably from the same buddy earlier when you were stoned. Tell him to go ruin two good plants and let you know the results.

Thats what I thought, but I referenced this dude I know who grows mass bud and he explained the process further. He's never tried it but he said you cut two clones in half, not full trees, and make sure they're stuck together so they'll eventually grow into each other. And Im assuming you would need some sort of rooting hormone to make the whole thing work. Any thoughts people?
