Cure problem

I have read anything below 55% RH will start to impede the cure process, thus many prefer to keep it up around 58% to allow for a margin of error.

What most of my buddies are going by, right or wrong, but pretty accepted process by SimonD...

+70% RH - too wet, needs to sit outside the jar to dry for 12-24 hours, depending.

65-70% RH - the product is almost in the cure zone, if you will. It can be slowly brought to optimum RH by opening the lid for 2-4 hours.

60-65% RH - the stems snap, the product feels a bit sticky, and it is curing.

55-60% RH - at this point it can be stored for an extended period (3 months or more) without worrying about mold. The product will continue to cure.

Below 55% RH - the RH is too low for the curing process to take place. The product starts to feel brittle. Once you've hit this point, nothing will make it better. Adding moisture won't restart the curing process; it will just make the product wet.

personally I prefer a moister smoke, around 62 to 65%.....which by coincidence is where most cigar smokers typically maintain the RH in their humidors

BTW: cigar shops/websites have all sorts of products to help maintain desirable RH levels (passive or active) and of course hygrometers, calibration kits/salt test
The cigar shop sells a 70% which is to high, I had to buy my 62% online, they are better for MJ

thats new knowledge's to me, thanks Bro ;) I usually add either a fresh leave or a peal of potato to the jar if it gets to dry/crispy, seems to work, atleast its not harsh to smoke or burn to fast, but the taste might not be the same, dunno I cant taste shit, as long as I get stoned Im happy :bigjoint:

Hi rosey. I'm at five months curing right now. IMO curing is the most important part of the entire grow.

Here is how I do it. https://www.rollitup.org/harvesting-curing/514841-perfect-cure-every-time.html

The small $10 hydrometers are a must to know what's going on in your jars.

Only thing I add to this process is the Boveda humidity packs. They take all the guess work out and produce perfectly cured bud that I can back with personal experience.

Unfortunately, once the bud reaches 55 percent humidity the curing process stops no matter what you do.

Good luck and congratulations on your harvest!
Bovedas are the shiznit. Yep make it so itscworry free and comes out perfect

The 62% ones are excellent, pretty much dry it out and toss them in the jar and forget about them. Turned out great after 2 weeks.

Cool, I was just PMing with Kite about it. I'd read on this and possibly other sites that some people were afraid of mold at 62% rh with no air exchange; and they recommended curing and THEN placing the packs in only for long term storage.

I take it you guys have not had a problem with mold when using the packs?

This was just a sidebar, don't let me hijack this thread please, lol.

I pack my bud boxes with boveda 62% and do not open for weeks, no mold whatsoever. I will not be curing without those packs ever..

Did you get a free calibration pack too? I don't have a hygrometer, but I now have the calibration pack for when I do.
