ok so the buds hae been in for about 10/12 hours now, and their definetly showing signs of drying, no mold, and keeping their smell, the silica packets seem to have become slightly moist aswell, im just about to get some shut eye, so another 8 hours for them to dry

reyt lads im abandoning the experiment hehe

im not too keen on the smell that the silica seems to have suddenly started giving off, andd silica being a toxic substance i really dont wanna risk my health, allthough i reckon it woud have dried the buds, they seem half dry now, just gonna finsih them off with good owld warm air (back of a monitor/tv, air vent etc)

Too much warmth and you ncould invite mold. keep temp near mid to low 60 degree range if possible. Not too high on the RH.

I use the dryes from Advanced Nutrients and it works great. My buds are trimed but left on the main stem. I have them in for about 3 days and they are ready to go into jars. Glass not plastic. The thc will stick to the bag and be wasted. Ever looked at your bag when your done smoking all the weed and see its kinda cloudy? Thats all thc. Anyhow, after they are in the jars I will open the lid for 15min 3 times a day till the stems snap easy thats usually in two more days. Then cap them off and put in the cubbord till needed. As they cure in the jars the smoke gets even better. This has worked great and Ive always had good tatsy dmoth smoking bud doing it.

btw im fairly sure after a bit of trial and error the silica thing would work, bt im just too pussy to try it, scared of getting silicosis of it or something lol, a while back when grit weed was prevelant round these parts a few mates got quite ill from it and reprtadly that is a type of silican sand that they spray on the buds a week before harvest oslt

those drying boxes look cool, but 500 bucks!!!! may have to see about building one myself being a carpenter :D

my mate drys his by leaving all the buds like little lollipops, and hangs them in a n alcove obove his room which is so perfect, has a warm breeze that passes through and drys the buds in a few days ready to cure never had mold either, lucky fecker lol

It is costly but I was lucky enough to get mine from a guy that got one and one of the grow boxes. He never said anything to his wife and she went nuts about his plans. I got the dryer for $100 and it was never used. He sold the grow box to anothe guy for like $550 so he took a real bath. his loss my gain I guess. You can build one im sure but I dont think I could for under $100. It really works great and with the built in carbon filter my house never smells at all.

my only probem is where id put it to be honest, the build seems quite easy looking about on the net a bit and would be a fun project :)

I keep mine under the veg table. Its just a small folding table and it gives me room for the dryer as well as my soil mix.

At harvest-time all you have to do is cut the plant as low as possible and hang the whole thing upside down to dry on a line. The room you use to dry should be the about the same size you grew in (if not the same room). The humidity should remain a constant 50-60%. Too high and buds will mold, too low and they dry too fast and taste bad. Temperature should be around 65-68 degrees, wherever possible. Make sure the room is dark, as light degrades THC.

All kinds of processes, like the transport of sugars inside the plant still take place, even when you cut it down. These processes will slowly come to an end while the drying progresses, but are the main factor for the end-taste of your smoke. That is the first reason why you don't want to quick-dry your weed. The second reason is the way that a plant dries. Plants are made up of cells and, as we all know, cells contain mainly water. Exposed to air, the (dying) plant's outer cells will dry out first but the above-mentioned processes will still transfer water from the inner cells to the dryer outer cells, thus causing the plant to dry equally all over. By removing the stalk and cutting off the individual colas, you prevent this natural process by taking away the extra moisture that would be drawn from the stem to the leaves and bud. Got it? Good! Moving on...

Make sure you hang the plants so that they do not touch each other (invites mold). With constant temp and humidity, the plants should be ready for manicuring in 3-4 weeks. At this time trim colas from the main stalk, and trim large and medium fan leaves (save them for making hash), leaving most of the smaller leaves sticking out of the bud in tact. Hang them up again and for a day or two, until 'popcorn' dry. The stems should snap when you bend them, and the bud should be dry, but not brittle. Now for the curing...

Trim all remaining leaf (save for hashmaking) tight to the buds, and trim smaller buds from larger stems. Store them airtight; air at this point degrades THC. Note- ziplock bags are not airtight! You could use buckets with an airtight lid like used for food and sauces and such, but the best containers are those glass jars with the rubber seal and latch. Just put as much bud in it as possible using light pressure. The point is to fill it as much as possible, so not too much air remains in the container. The less air, the better. To be safe, check them the next day to make sure it's still dry (did not 'sweat'). Any excess moisture at this point will invite mold. If it did sweat and is moist (soft) again, lay the bud out on something other than newspaper and put in a dry place to get the last water out.

Repack and place the container in a cool, dark place, like a refrigerator. Note- fridges have high humidity so they must be absolutely airtight.
The longer it sits (up to around a month, maybe longer in the fridge) the better it gets, both in taste and potency. At around the month mark, you can move it to the freezer to almost stop the aging and curing process. Once you've got some buds stored in the freezer, you have a private stash that will last a long time. If you've got the patience to wait, the smoke will be sweet and smooth. The high will be mellow, and longer lasting. If you grew enough to last you a while, then after a few harvests you will be able to have properly cured buds at your disposal, with no downtime waiting for the next batch to cure!

Awesome advice..thanks for the informative post ..Rep to you

Im quite interested in that silica gel idea, after reading about drying and curing it seems that it takes about 3 weeks (atleast) untill bud is ready for smoking. N i dont wanna wait that long lol, harvest wont be for about a month or two but once its done il deffinetly give it a try

just do asmall amount quick dry and save th rest ;) why wait at least 8 weeks of flowering and then want to rush it at the end and (potentially) ruin all your weed, nothing compares to a slow dryed bud thats cured to perfection, simlpe as that :)

yeah il just quick dry like a Q or sumin to see if it works, n properly cure the rest to get some nice smooth smoke :D

i thought the longer your buds were left curing the better tasting and stronger it got. that Aryen from greenhouse said on a video on utube that 8 months is the minimum he cures for and the longer the better. wat do you think?

Aryen from greenhouse says to cure for at least 8 months and the longer the better, kind of like a malt it just gets stronger and the flavour/taste of the smoke gets better. Dont you think freezing your buds could be detrimental to this natural process?
