Cutter Electronics: Complete DIY COB kits

So was thinking of swapping out my lighting in a 4x8' tent. Would 3x5 cob kits do the trick?
Three (5) cob kits would be a good starting point for you. Approx 750w after driver losses. (813 watts at the wall)
750 watts x 56% eff = 415 PARwatts for approx 650 ppfd . good starting point for the first couple runs, if you like what you are seeing, you could bump up a little with another kit.

I have 2 10cob units ordered. If i mount the ballast remotely i will be using a little more than 10ft total of wire. The first cob will be less than 10ft but after wiring the cobs it will probably be over 10ft total. Do i need to go to 16awg and if so will 16awg fit into cob holder, or can i go 16awg from drivers to first cob and then switch over to the 18awg supplied with the kit?

For my setup, I am using 14 gauge wire that was recommended by SupraSPL years ago. my runs are 18ft long from driver to first cob. using a mulimeter, I have no significant voltage drop.

Thanks Gromau5. Did you use the 14 gauge between the cobs also, will the 14 gauge wire fit into the cob holders? and thanks for the videos, they convinced a 25yr HID user to switch.

I used 18awg for the between cob connections. I guess I was just too lazy to fiddle with trying to tin and shove 14awg into the ideal holders.
 
Did anyone who ordered this kit receive other than a Pairui driver??

My kit just showed up with a Zhonhen, which from a quick comparison is cheaper and not boasting a 5 year warranty as far as I can tell.
 
Mark replied and informed me that it is a better driver than the Pairui and that the Mau5 kit will actually ship with either one based on availability.

So looks like it'll be ok ;-)

Maybe put something up on the cutter website letting people know so there's no confusion in the future
 
I noticed on the web page it lists both drivers.

Yeah, he mention he'd updated the site. Not sure if that was after my order (23rd) or just after the first kits and I overlooked it. Eitherway, all is well.

Yes both drivers have 5 year warranty, the ZPE is actually a dearer driver but we have a policy that if we dont have a part in stock we will ship a BETTER alternative, never something less. ZPE is the supplier of our 400 watt driver for the 8 up kits and they make first class drivers

with a 4x4 tent would it be worth running 16 cobs or would 12 be best?, would the extra 4 be worth it price wise and the extra watts or would it not really be as efficient for yields? i know more cobs i can dim but if they were all at full power would the be much of a difference?

At 1.4 amps you could do 16. I'm getting some bleaching with my 8 @ 1.75 & 4 3070's @ 1.4

If your goal is to take a firm grip of a gavita's dick, chop it off and then stomp it into the dirt, run 16. In any other circumstance 12 is more than adequate for a 4x4.
