Dave's First LED Grow Using Area 51

Do any of you guys know what you pull as far as amps? D- I know you are fine with just the one panel. I found out that I need to have a split breaker put in (to be smart). Turns out all of my bedrooms run off the same breaker, and I'm pulling almost 12 amps in THAT room without the A/C which I will need when it starts getting above 65 degrees outside. The breaker can only handle 15, and shouldn't go over 80%. - And I am working on getting MORE LIGHTS! Had a discreet electrician visit over the weekend. It really highlighted the difference between my LEDs , HPS, and Fluoros. (And I am miniscule compared to some) I just know there are people living and growing in fire traps now. Gotta be sure I have a suitable home for that new A-51 this spring!

That's a really good point. I think most of my breakers are 15 amps too. Even if the breakers prevent a fire, it would really suck to trip one without knowing it until your plant's been sitting in the dark all day. When I expand my grow op I'll have to make sure that the breaker can handle the amps.

Thanks for that info brother Dawg.

I see on the label of the Max Fan that I just bought the power draw at the highest fan speed is 70 watts. From I = P/V (amps = watts/volts) that would make it drawing only .58 amps.
My problem, and many other folks will come in the summer. Most AC window units pull 10. That plus my 12 already meant I needed to divide it up before putting in more. If I were running strictly LED, I'd probably be good. Gotta admit, things are growing faster than I expected. Wife has threatened to shut down my credit cards...lol.

I hear ya about the credit cards! Lucky for me, I came into some unexpected cash last Christmas, but I spent almost all of it already, much of it on growing equipment. I'm also lucky that my AC is central, so it's on its own circuit breaker.

You should be pretty close, right? You been sampling? ;-)

Haven't been sampling yet. Saturday I'll start the flush. Actually, Saturday is the end of 8 weeks, which is the flowering time recommended by the seed seller. But the harvest is going to be pretty small, so I'll wait until I chop it down and smoke some scissor hash.

Bought a little weed a couple days ago. One 1/4 oz of something called "White Fire" is pretty strong. The high is the same as I get from my last harvest of Critical Kush, but you don't need to take as many hits. I also bought an oz of some weed that he called "Blue Medical <something>" but I forgot what the something was. It's a lot like my Critical Kush. But now I have enough to last me until the next harvest I think. I'll probably get about an oz from this harvest, plus enough sticky leaves for a batch of cookies.

Pretty impressive Dave, she looks amazing! Definitely a big difference from your last grow. I'm on the tail end of my room upgrade. It was a pretty big one, so I've been busy. I'll post a link once I get the thread started. I can't wait to see what you pull this time, she's a bush!

Yes, please give me the link after you start your new journal. Your first grow was outstanding. I want to see what you'll do with your room upgrade. If I remember right, you already had a lot of growing space in your first grow.

This one for me was a little disappointing because it was going so well up until a few weeks ago. I had to learn a lot about the meanings of different leaf signs. Next time I'll know what to watch out for. This Critical Kush needs lots of magnesium, but trying to boost it with a Cal/Mag supplement can lock out the Mg and other minerals -- I discovered the hard way!

Final pics before she meets the chopping block

She's the crazy aunt we keep in the attic so nobody has to see her. Leaves are not pretty. But somehow no matter what I do to a plant, the bud always turns out dank. The yield just won't be too great. And that's only due to the nute lockout problem that happened a while back, not anything to do with the light panel I used. The Area 51 light is awesome. I like it so much that I'm planning to buy a second one for my next grow. (I'll grow 2 plants if I can do that.)

Yesterday I started the final flush, which will go on until Wednesday. Light schedule is about 10 hours on/14 hours off. Aroma is nice and strong when I have the cabinet door open now. Roots were kinda brown again, so added 75 ml of 35% H2O2 to the res and it whitened them up in about 10 minutes. Also, to help flush out as much mineral salt as possible I added AN's Final Phase, which contains chelates.

Here are some bud closeups:

Looks nummy, Dave! I can't wait to see your next grow! I learned quite a bit from this one.

Thanks gb. I learned quite a bit myself from this grow. A few more years and we'll be pros. :weed:

I'll post a link on this thread after I create the new one. I might not start the next grow for a couple months, depending on how much work I want to do in my closet. I might just remove the cabinet and partition off the growing half of the closet from the clothing part, using a big piece of paneling or something. Then I'll have to put up some crossbars to hang heavy lights and the air filter & fan on. I think that sound-insulating it and making it air tight will take the most time. But it'll make it possible for me to grow 2 tall plants at the same time. The main thing is getting more height to play with, though.

Nice, not bad man. Not bad. Didn't read back through everything but your mention of learning leaf signs. Just curious so the yellow spotting was just chlorotic spots from the Mg def, or was there some spider mite problems along the way too?

So you're running 2'x3' as well. Do you just have the the one A51 light for that space? That's all I have trying on 6 small plants in 7.5 litre airpots under a single xgs 190. Seems to be doing great so far. Interested to see what I can pull with this thing.

Exactly right. I looked at the little dots closely because I was afraid they might be spider mite eggs or insect eggs. But they were just holes in the leaves from the Mg deficiency (which isn't good, but at least I didn't lose everything).

I'm using the SGS-160 in a 2' x 3' cabinet like you thought. The owner told me that my cab is the perfect size for one of these light panels. I think the XGS-190 can cover a 3' x 3' footprint. I think you'll be very happy with it!
