Day 5 and only 1/3 is alive.... WTF??

I put them into some ocean forest and no extra nutes about 4 days ago. I watered about 1 cup twice a day for the 1st two days, then I realized I might be overwatering, so I stopped. Saran wrap was on for 2 days and i saw some moisture on it, and once I realized I could be overwatering I yanked it.

Day 5 now and soil is still semi moist on top, so no watering for past 36 hoursish..

But two days ago and into yesterday one sprout wilted up and turned brown and I removed it. Today a 2nd looks like it is on its way out too now and it's leaves are 50/50 yellow/green.

First one is still nice and strong - all green too. It was the 1st one to pop up on day 2 (others didn't pop until day 3), and it is still about 1" above soil, just developed it's 2nd set of pre-leaves this afternoon, so hopefully it has 4 leaves by this time tomorrow..

But any ideas on why the other 2 are dying/dead? I mean water + 24/0 light + good soil = how can I F that up right?? Maybe it is too moist? I thought it was supposed to be really moist 1st week, then water only when top of soil is dry from thereon out?

I'm sprouting another now in case I truly do end up with only the 1 and I have room for the two pots so might as well make sure I have two+ plants, right?

Anyways, let me know if you have ideas.. right now I'm chalking it up to bad plants/seeds or something like that - it just wasn't meant to be (read: miscarriage)...

I'm very :( right now...

I think I'm gonna :spew:

Bingo ! your soil should only be moist enough that a ball of it squeezed in your hand will stay together. You don't water till they pop up. I like to dip the pots in about a 1/2 inch of water and let them wick that up (called bottom watering) The root will seek that moisture out. Remember over watering is #1 killer of all.

Lights and other details are in my journal (link in my sig now) but to summarize, they are CFLs, 6500K right now. 6 of them for 2 plants, in a quad setup, basically each is benefitting from 4 of the 6 (2 shared), angled at 45' (using Y-splitters). You can see pics in my journal, but basically each plant has 4 on it, one in each corner, all angled at 45 (I heard you get more light from the side of CFLs) but from what I've read over the past few weeks in the CFL forum, this is PLENTY.

Ok, I guess that is the only thing that makes sense - water overdose - so hopefully #1 makes it... I think when I watered on day 1+2 it dried out so quickly and I thought it was cuz of the lights, thus I re-watered and saran wrapped 'em.. Now after 3 more days I realize the lights were not evapping the water like I thought - it was just soaking in. So now even the tops are moist, but not too moist.. So hopefully it is in time to save #2, but I pray #1 is still doing good despite all of this - I'm not watering again for probably 24-36 more hours from now...

MJ plants don't like wet feet. The only time they like lots of water is after they have not had any for a few days and are on the verge of wilting.
