I agree She does need a thorough cleaning. I watched a video of a guy using "Real Lemon" Concentrate with "Baking Soda" soaked (approx 30 sec) in 5-gallon buckets of water.
Other methods or is this the acceptable standard?
Do some searching for "Bud Washing". If not here there is lots of info how to do it right and clean up your colas without hurting the resin. 420mag has mucho info.

Sometimes do a stress is the best way to end of the plant flower cycle .
You can use different method but really you have to mention after you done i mean just going for harvest at all .

I was under the impression before I starting reading this forum that darkening orangish pistils were the telltale sign of harvest. I am very glad I came here and received a "good education" as the right way to grow & harvest! Now I understand amber trichomes is not necessarily a good thing.
I really appreciate the advice!
Why people say Amber is simple, when you have say 10 % amber that generally means the buds are nice and mature with the most amount of milky. But there is no point checking trichomes before a bud has brown hairs and swollen calyx's.
The trouble is not all strains show amber, so its more important to go off what a mature bud looks like.

Often people will say more amber is a more sedatry effect, if you have ever grown a very mature Sativa then you would know this is incorrect.

Also keep in mind that its not just the THC that sets the high. Look at the cannabis cup winners and their THC % for clarification. There is more going on than just THC.

i don't suggest wetting your buds period.
use tweezers. small paintbrush maybe? i don't know. get creative. just don't wet your buds, it will more then likely end up in mold/mildew, which is even worse then smoking tree sap.
I'm currently harvesting seeded budz that also have mites and came up with this little trick to suck the little bastards down to mite hell!

Found some screen with a mesh about 4x as big as window screen and used electrical tape to fix it over the end of the crevice tool for the vacuum. Just chop off a branch and lightly bump the buds around on it to get rid of most of them. All but the best colas will be made into oil and vac-sucked thru a lab filter much finer than a coffee filter to make into hash with kief from older crops.

These are the little f'ers I'm dealing with.

Took this pic with my new 40-1000x USB scope on a tripod. You can see the reflection of the 8 little LED lights around the lens on the mite egg on the right. :)

I used the vacuum cleaner with screen over the attachment before. I had some serious mite issues years ago. I used it on still growing plants. Tore the leaves up some but sucked up most of the mites and their webbing. The only thing worse than mites is bud rot.
