Ok, so from these forums everyone says use daylight CFL's for while your trying to grow and it should be about 6500 lumens. Well, i got a pack of these "daylight" cfl's from homedepot for 8$ but the packaging says its only 1400lumens. What am I missing here? All of the packages labled daylight never went above 1400 lumens but these forums say 6500, im just confused. please explain what im missing

well I just learned something, thank you. Now, how do I tell the color temperature of the bulbs i buy? I have some "Soft white" but i only see lumens, no color temp numbers. when people said grow under 2700 cfl's, i thought they meant lumens so i got some cfl's that put out 2600 lumens cuz that was the closest thing i could find. What do i do?

Guys, this is still over my head, when you say "blueish" what are you talking about? the packaging, the bulb itself, or what? How do i know when im starring at a pack of CFL's if they are 6500 or 2700k? Lumens and watts are the ONLY numbers i see on the packing, nothing about yellow, or blue light.

ok, ill explain it......during different part of the year the color of light kinda changes or something its place on the spectrum is determined by the color they put out 2700k lights are more orange looking while 6500k is blue looking. the plant likes a blue spectrum (6500k) for vegging and an orange spectrum (2700k) for flowering. +rep me if it helps please. it took me a bit to type this for ya.....look for the color rating

it should say right on the package what it is. for instance im looking at a 2700k energy smart one i have right next to me and it says 2700k in the bottom left of the packaging. just ask someone who works there next time and the will show you.

You need to be VERY observant of what you buy. Personally, I don't buy a single bulb, unless I see with my own eyes, that it says 6500k or 2700k right on the packaging. Sometimes it might be on the bulb inself, on the base. I don't even go by the terminology of "soft white" "daylight" etc., you're still taking a chance of buying the wrong color spectrum of light. I make sure for myself. If those numbers aren't on there, I don't buy them.
