I agree. I always tell my kid that I'm not his fucking friend. Why would I have a 14 yo friend? That's creepy. I tell him that we can have a friendly rapport, but that's based on if he's doing what's expected of him. When he isn't, I'm going to do my best to steer him back on course, and he isn't going to like it. I'd rather do my job and have him grow up to be a happy, healthy individual that doesn't like me, than for him to be a loser that thinks I'm cool...im not saying go in an act high and mighty, im saying he isnt their friend,
if that worked for you im glad
but anytime any step parent came around me acting like "my friend" i disrespected them..they arent my fucking friend...if i wanted a new goddamn friend i sure as fuck wouldnt pick them either.
theres a different between mutual respect , and being friends.
there are boundaries...proper adult to teenager dont try and cross that by being their "friend" we all know you arent actually
