It is now official, you are corrupt morons:

  • The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775. You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.
  • Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke.
  • Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke.
  • War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to “the poor” and they only want more.
  • Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.
  • Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.
  • The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED in every “government service” you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars.
AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??

but the democrats are going to get it right this time. brak, being the smartest guy in the room, has the real answers now, all of these past failures will be rectified and all will be right with the world. the only reason obama and company haven't fixed it all yet is that the republicans are standing in the way after spending the past eight years screwing us even more than ever.

don't worry, be happy.:fire:

It is astonishing to see the blind faith some among us have in the almighty Federal govt.

Please tell me you are joking. That is one of the most ridiculous statements I have yet to hear. Let's just put all of our faith into this one man. He sounds a lot like this guy I call jesus, all hail the new messiah.

i have gone quite insane and decided to drink the kool-aid of the chosen one. i now think that brak hasn't run far enough to the left and that this country is in need of a socialist enema. let's destroy the idea of individual rights and bow before the dictatorship of the proletariat. i'm ready to give up my guns, donate my worldly goods to the bureaucracy and vote democrat for the rest of my life (regardless of what stance they may chose to take next). i'll never again ask whether the liberal cause is good for the country, but if it is good for the party. i now firmly believe that there are not enough people on welfare and that we are all incapable of telling right from wrong without the guiding hand of those brilliant minds in the capitol. i have come to realize that profit is the ultimate evil and only those who devote their lives to public service are free of the greed that has destroyed this country. quite simply, we have too much and must atone for the sin of success.

i'm huffing gas fumes as fast as i can, hoping to kill enough brain cells to actually believe all this is for the best.:fire:

Maybe you should run for office if you think you can do better....

I'm very grateful for the service the post office offers. Sure you have to wait in line once in a while but I can send letters and parcels anywhere in the country and abroad for little money, which is something I do place a certain value on. The biggest problem I have with the postal service is that it's become mostly a taxpayer-funded distribution system for junk mail, but doing something about that would be too much government intervention, am I right?

SS is going broke but in 2000 we had a budget surplus that could have been used to address this, but bush decided tax cuts were a better idea and we all got checks in the mail, yay! There are plenty of seniors and people on disability for whom SS is the only safety net. But your right, we should get right of SS and let them all invest their money with lehman bros instead.

Actually Fannie and Freddie were doing a good job of making home-ownership accessible to lower-income families with little cost to the taxpayer until we decided it was ok to start bundling and reselling mortgages, which almost killed our financial system.

Medicare is projected to go broke by 2017 if we don't do anything, but that has more to do with the demographics of the baby boomers than some inherent flaw in the system. Seniors love it and even republicans are defending it to score cheap political points in teh healthcare debate, which makes me think it's been more of a success than anything else.

And the fact that our dependance on foreign oil has gone up to do more with our increased consumption of energy has gone up dramatically and we that we are only just starting to look at energy conservation and alternative sources as ways of reducing our dependance on imported fossil fuels. Obviously if our use of energy goes up and we don't look for domestic alternatives to importing oil, more of our energy will need to be imported.

You could also give some better examples. The interstate highway system, which is also a 'big government' project seemed to work rather well last time I used it. The defense department is one government agency that seems fairly competent to me...

It's a bit ironic that these 'failures of government' are mostly the result of republican mismanagement. It makes sense though: fuck everything the government does up while your in office, then tell people that government - rather than your own stupid decisions - is the problem when you're in the opposition. By the time the next election rolls around, enough people will have forgotten that you were the one who fucked it up in the first place to get your reelected.

Obviously all this stuff costs money and needs to be funded through taxes. But next time you send a letter, drive on the highway, need a fire in your house extinguished, have to be rescued at sea or face a foreign invasion, ask yourself whether you really want those services to be provided by the private sector...

amtrak is a piece of crap because the US goverment was successfully lobbied by the airline industry into believing that air-travel was more efficient and faster than rail travel. so the government stopped updating its rail system and began building airports everywhere....

i went to europe, traveled from belgium to amsterdam in 4 hours by train. my friends took 5 hours by plane, because of the drive to the airport 2 hours beforehand, the wait in line, security, and waiting for the bags to come out of the carriage..... i just walked up to the counter 10 minutes before the train arrived, got my ticket, and waited at the platform.....

there's 6 airports within a ten-mile radius of where I live... 3 of those are open only to privately owned aircraft. two of those only allow ILS equipped planes to land. in other words, rich people in very expensive planes are the only ones allowed to land, and therefore take-off....

a very famous case was an airport in the DC area. it only has 3 flights a day, to the capital, and tickets are subsidized by the government to the tune of 75% of the cost. guess to what party does the representative who successfully won a 100million dollar renovation of that facility, and the following subzidization belongs to?? let me give you a hint, he ain't a democrat.

the government is capable of running successful ventures, it's when special interests get in the way that failures are inevitable....
