I feel the same way! I can grow plants, but when these guys start talking cob and cree, par, lux, etc...I start to feel a little hopeless...I just can't seem to grasp the concept well enough to consider DIY.
Its not too hard, all you have to do is start a thread with all the info that youre requesting. Thats how I started at least.

Just like gg said over and over.we need more growers showing actual results here under multiple chips and drivers.not more math problems haha.
Doesn't mean he is right. Sometimes all you need is the math problem, especially when comparing practically identical white light spectrums, just tell me how much light the fucking thing makes.

Seriously, sometimes a priori knowledge is enough.

When someone with an "advertiser" tag says something like "don't get too caught up in umol/j" or "don't get too caught up in efficiency", run. Don't let them trick you with mirrors/lenses.

Total output, efficiency, and quantum efficacy of the source are much more important than the optics (smoke and mirrors) they use.

That's a pretty uneducated statement. It's pretty well documented that light control is very important. That advertiser badge hasn't got a damn thing to do with facts. The "Real" professionals in this industry are very serious about light distribution. Last I checked Concrete floor isles produce 0 grams per sq ft. Also bouncing light off a 70% reflective surface hoping for the best sure isn't a good plan either.

Do you think big companies like sunlight supply spend $$$$ on computer modeling for no reason?

I mean any light source will test higher with no optics..... It doesn't say a thing about real world performance like actual incident surface readings.

Also that "Advertiser" badge has helped me bring real knowledge to this forum. Getting to work with engineers with high tech labs and so on has surely expanded my understanding of this industry and where it is going.

P.S. we are getting out fixtures tested both in sphere and also with a photogenometer.
