declorinating tap water for my clones

I was just wondering about using tap water for my clones. People talk about leaving tap water out over night to let the chlorine dissipate. Does anyone use the "DROPS" available in pet shops for aquarium use? A couple of drops into your gallon of tap water and the chlorine evaporates.

Also, does it make sense that my tap water ph number became lower after mixing it with Humboldt nutes?

thanks everyone.

Yes mate nutes will lower your pH ....always add your nutes then pH your water .....Has for the aquarium drops i aint got a clue i just leave my water out over night with an air stone bubbling away....I used to keep discus in planted tanks and some drops do mess with the plants ....I ended up switching to an r.o unit for my water...But when it come's to your plants I'd not risk it personally and just use an air stone over night if possible...

thanks Don! I do add nutes to water before ph testing.

Hoping someone knows if using the chlorine drops is a good thing or a definite "DON'T USE THEM"

yeah the drops are water ager should work ok if its good enough for fish but just leaving it your tap water out overnight should be fine too. Don Dappa uses airstones to oxygenate the water which plants love.

Ive never had a problem with chlorinated water. In fact it prob helps control pathenogens. To each their own though

chorinated water bad .....it kills off mirco buddies in the ground

there is a water filtered called Zero water........it is the best on the market u can get a 10 cup one from mtarget for like 45 bucks it will clean up 220 gallons of water ....it even comes with a ppm meter so u can check it and know when to replace the filter

certin citys have more chemicals in the water supply then is listed .........at one time they did a test on DC water and found pharmacul grade drugs in the water

if u are not on well water or some other natural form ............clean the water filter it .....try it on one plant and when u smoke it u will see/taste it (this includes the flush clean good water)

side note if u are letting the water sit open to air after about 2 days the chorinated water reverts back to regural water (this is for city waters....fill the tub up let it sit for a day have a smell then come back the next day it is all gone

this is the reason why at pools they keep adding more at night before they shut down

i'd have to agree with leaving the chlorine in for clones, or if your doing hydro with it. chlorine wont hurt them in the ammounts that would be in tap water. i have had more problems with cal/mag issues from ro water than i have ever had with tap water. and the tap water where i live is horrible @ .9 ec 8.1+ ph.

Alot of municipalities are using chloramine in their treatment of water. This does not dissapate like chlorine will, check with your local water department to see how they treat your water. Good Luck and Happy Growing!

A lot of people will tell you to leave your water out over night or bubble it to dissipate the chlorine, but from what i have read it only actually takes about 15 minutes for the chlorine to evaporate from the water, i am not sure where this whole 24 hour thing came from, but i think it might have came from fish tank enthusiast because i believe the 24 hour reasoning is to get the water temperature to room temperature so the fish don't die, but yeah i have been watering about 30 minutes to an hour after i get the water out of the tap and have had no ill effects...

I'm curious about your cal/mag issues you mentioned. From RO? Were your stems purple in color from mag or cal deficiency?

Most municipalities now use chloramines instead of chlorine. You can call and find out.
According to my water provider you can let the water sit out for "a few days" and the chloramines should dissipate.

I have heard that you can put a small piece of something organic in the water and the chloramines will attach to it. (That is what I have heard. I have no idea if it works.)

24 hours wait is to adjust the temp for fish guys like me. My 70 gal fresh water tank is at a different temp than what comes out of the tap and fish hate rapid temp changes.

Plants don't like the temp shock either. I don't use the conditioner any more for the fish because I use the water from the tank on my plants. I am growing organic and don't want to introduce more chemicals into the soil, especially when I'm trying to promote micro-organism growth.

The bottle says it removes chlorine and chloramine, neutralizes heavy metals, coats to protect scales and fins. Yeah, probably don't want to use that on my plants. No list of ingredients on the bottle.

Go to your local Petco/Petsmart/Pet store and look for a bottle of this stuff made of aloe vera in the fish section. It's about $9 and it's made to get rid of chlorine and chloramine, I use it all the time for brewing my teas and before I mix water with anything.

Depends on where you live.

Our water was so high in Fluoride it once surpassed federal health standards. Parents are even warned yearly not let children under 5 to drink the water..or limit intake.

Also you can actually smell the chlorine when you first turn on the tap.

Needless to say nobody drinks the water here.
