Thanks, yes, I think i'm sold on adding this to my compost. I only have a little worm bin, which is good for tea but useless for bulk compost. Bigger plans ahead for vegies though so i'll be trying the wood for sure!
Brought some home, it really is refined. I thought it was in different stages but pretty much all brakes/crumbles down to coco-like consistency.
The soil is a little acidic, at the lower end of nutrient scales but not too bad. I'm thinking in itself it needs some amount of added aeration and nutrient load. We're gonna try this run with about 10% wood (30% local soil, 10%coco, 10%growstone, 30% composts, some lime/neem/kelp meal) mostly just amendments left from my indoor plant, nettle/comfrey/wood mulch layer on top. It can all cook for some time yet. That should keep it pretty well free draining.
Can I ask, did the roots reach the bottom with your 1m Old Toby Vostock?

Iv'e always baulked a bit at burying leaves, wood n shit at the root zone, just that it naturally wouldn't occur there. Pictures roots not being quite at home when they come across unusual stuff.. that doesn't seem to be a drama from what others find.
Does anyone think it's worth soaking the wood in nitrogen tea, chook shit/alfalfa etc? (Iv'e read of this with woodchip mulch to counter the N sink)
