defoliating outdoor plants

hi people whats your options on defoliating outdoor plants just before they enter flower season
do you think its a waste of time or do you think its beneficial to them

Only pruning I might would do would be to remove the small lower branches that won’t produce much because they are overshadowed by all the upper growth. As to removing healthy leaves I personally consider that a mistake. Plants need those leaves for photosynthesis and removing those will simply force the plant to replace them rather than continue to push new growth into flowering.

It's a different ballgame outdoors. Defoliation is used indoors under artificial lighting because grow lights can't compare to the big light in the sky. You really shouldn't have any light penetration issues outdoors, unless you're growing in the shade.

that is what i thought. i normally only remove the small lower branches but i was considering a full defoliating. i wont waste my time with it i guess

i wouldnt bother. if you can get a lot of hours of sunlight no issue. for my last 2 grows outdoors the biggest issue for me was just the lack of sunlight per day. i get around 4-5 hours only still produces decent looking buds

i dont have the option of running mine in full sun but they do get 6 hours direct most days

I've always heard the advice to not do it, but I've never heard anyone say they tried it...

as macs said the main reason why people prune indoors is due to light penetration and air circulation. outdoor growers shouldn't have this issue. the sun produces more light and a better spectrum i believe then what indoor setups can get. it also rises and sets naturally so your getting various angles of it daily so no need for side lighting. you also have the massive amount of air flow unlike indoors where you need the fans just to push out more air and bring in fresh air.

yea i mean i still wouldn't imo the sunlight is pretty fucking strong. it should be penetrating into your canopy easily unless your growing some big ass bushes or something.

this is my blue widows outside https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/390404674219409410/544700278277013514/20190211_155103.jpg

the fatter the buds get the more weight they have and spread the branches out naturally. the smaller one grew more like an indica short and more stacked and budding wise i think it is behind tbh cause the buds are still fairly small compared to the one on the left which grew like nothing.

basic physics imo as well. the taller they get and more weight at the top with little to no support they spread open. it's like a pollvault basically. why you think the polls are so long and bendable versus short. they need the energy built up into that bend to excel over the poll and yes sometimes the polls do snap

yea im a bit sad the smaller one hasn't gotten like that yet or if it even will. idk what im even doing as far as growing goes lmfao my 3rd one is super small with barely any buds on it but it is kept in the backyard that gets maybe 1-2 hours of direct sunlight only so it's mostly shaded and used for seeding. i fucked up that grow though fed a shit load of nutrients during veg so they got nitrogen toxicity and eventually nutrient lockout.

i am flowering my indoor grow starting tomorrow i have plants of the same stature 1 big one and 1 medium sized one and 1 runt so im gonna see if it's just genetics or what that causes the buds to be smaller cause i've seen people with small plants with huge nugs

for only like 2 hours detect light thats so much better then id expect. i dont see over feeding as fucking up. i see it as learning what not to do next time. i haven't grow outdoors in soil for a few years. im always looking for ways to maximise yield but at as low cost as i can. i have never bothered defoliating outdoors in the past and i guess i never will due to the fact no one thinks its needed. will stick with just topping and lst

no those ones were in about 3-5 hours direct light i shoved um outside in january. not too cold here to grow outside in winter just really rainy. i grew 3 the 3rd one is the one in our backyard that got 2 hours direct light only. buds look like popcorn very small. those 2 bigger ones are in the front yard where most of the sunlight is at during the day. i wish i could grow in the ground but due to where i live i have to constantly move my plants from the front to the back yard at night due to theft. plus i can only grow so large as well due to cops bothering us/theft.

nieghborhood we live in is looked at as a "bad neighborhood" tons of cops patrolling on a daily basis and lots of little petty crimes going around. just yesterday some security guard got beat by 15 kids. about a 5-10minute drive from my house. my theory is that because the light is stronger from the sun they can do better with the lack of it but if i were able to get more then it would obviously be bigger/better. my indoor lights are not the best as well cheap chinese blurples.

i've only seen 1 person defoliate their outdoor crop and that guy was geurilla growing i think he was doing it particularly because he was growing reg seeds and some of the plants were males everyone else they don't seem to talk about defoliating or training or anything in general. plants are huge still and im sure of that stature bring in a nice haul but at the cost of the natural growing season so you get less flips but bigger yields per year. luckily for us we can grow year round but on days like today we lack sunlight. outside is i would say cold as fuck for what we consider cold and rainy so not much direct sunlight for me today or all week for that matter.
