Defoliation durring flower

I'm growing indoor inside a shed, I'm growing 4 plants using a 1000 watt HPS light and my canopy is so thick and I have a ton of leaves everywhere, the 4 plants are in 10 gal pots and their all right next to each other cause they are sharing the 1 light. I will post acouple pics but I don't have any "new new" pictures. The cannopy has been thick for awhile now, I'm about 3-4 weeks into flower now and wondering if I should remove some leaves to open up for more light and air flow. A lot of people say no but YouTube videos only show the benifets from defoliating. Let me know what you guys think cause I have a ton of big fan leaves covering other bud spots lower in the cannopy.

Have you seen any YouTube videos on defoliating? I was watching this guys channel who has grown for 15+ years and the 4th week into flowering he removes every single fan leave off his plants, his weed turns out amazing. But like I have said, everyone says not to that I have talked to about it.

I've seen people defoliate with decent results. But what they don't show you is a side by side comparison of one defoliated and one not defoliated, they only show you the defoliated ones which is just anecdotal. The leaves are what use the nutrients and light to provide energy to the plants, the flowers don't do that. If you want to try it I would recommend you get several of the same type of plant, preferably clones from the same mother that have all the same growth characteristics and are the same age and size under the same lighting conditions and do half and not the other half and then see what the results are in the end.

Thanks for the info, as of now I'm not gonna remove any. I just wanted some advice cause I've heard both.

I only trim large overlapping leaves, usually because of pm worries and for airflow. Better to trim put the little crap at the bottom then cut your canopy up too bad.

I defloaite every 10 days or so during flower, I get bigger quantities and have seen no negatives from doing so. people claim issues but I have not seen them , The buds have leaves and they give energy from lights too.. try it once and get your own opinions on it

I can see how flavors and some what of yield can be lost from removing most of the fan leaves, they are what feed the buds as well as the leaves on the buds too. For my first grow I will leave all the leaves .

Defoliate is removing all leaves. its kind of in the name.
I imagine it would slow down growth as the plant grows them back instead of concentrating the nutrients on bud production.

Yeah i'm talking the main fan leaves in the way of lower secondary buds. And no I never totally remove all leaves from my plants, But a bud in direct light will get bigger then one shaded from an upper fan leaf on the same plant. I'm sure taking all leaves could only hurt yield. But trimming it like a fruit tree to increase yields IMO has the same method and merit .....


EDT lolly popping is a form of defolation and is widely accepted with no one questioning the results, why would you think one form of it would work in reverse of the other ??

Defoliate is removing all leaves, its in the name. Agent orange is a defoliant for eg. Do stoners use the term to mean something else? Yes, but horticulturists and gardeners certainly don't.

Here is 11 White widow and 4 Strawberry cough at day 41 and just defoliated three hours ago, I take whats nessacary and no more. The 4 cough are 2nd row to the left and 4 deep, no dont tell ne I have a nutrient issue, they are like that for a reason lol20171022_024638.jpg 20171022_024647.jpg

that's what I'm saying, that's trimmed it has not been defoliated. Its still got foliage.

No it was not aimed at you but there are several forms of what's known as defolation, it does not mean you yank all leaves off of the plant and I have never heard of any one claiming to be in the know to have ever doing so on any species of flora.... That is just plain dumb......
