It's been a while since I visited this thread. Is the original poster still participating? I did some prey extensive defoliation this grow, and I'm really curious to see his experimental results. How long till they finish and what one is looking better? The defoliated or non defoliated?

Unfortunately, my grows are not good for scientific analysis because these pics are from two different batches with different strains grown at different times with radically different nutrients and lighting. That's why I want to see the results from the guy who posted this thread. That being said, my last grow was the same variety as the plants in the second pic, but I don't have any pics of that grow. They were not nearly as defoliated as this grow, and I can see a few differences. Yield appears to be comparable, but I notice that buds located lower on the stems have a higher trichome count this round than they did in the last round. Top buds look about the same. Direct exposure to the light seems to have an advantage.

If you guys wanna see this experiment followed through with I just started a thread on it. All variables controlled except for the fact that I will defoliate fan leaves that block at least one bud site on one tray while leaving the other alone. side by side with 18 plants per sample. I should post a link but I forgot to grab it for you.

Oscar-- I think the onlly way to prevent the kind of jacking of which you are a victim is to make a 'Grow Journal' about it. Rules of the board are that you can request that NO ONE makes comments but you. That means you can run your experiment in peace. You can create a seperate thread elsewhere for dscussion, and let the trolls climb all over that one . At least you'll be able to have a compact thread that only gives your experiment and the results.

My 2c.

Strain variance is a huge factor here. Just like some strains once dialed in call for special doses of ferts at select times in their flower process to obtain tue best results. I defoliate in a sense, but since i scrog its minimal. Only when old fan leaves are blocking bud sights at the canopy and no sooner than week 4 on my 11 weekers. ( i also lollypop 12 inches from canopy a week hefore flower then once week 2 after initial stretch.

Personally i dont agree with defoliating early on. I put my girls through enough stress trimming suckers IMO. Also fan leaves are like a sheild throughout the flower process. The more of them you have, the slower problems will affect your yield. Ex. A defoliated plant left dry for an hour may not bounce back, while a plant with all of its water reserves in tact will pull through just fine... even if you get a bit of a yield or quality difference, is it worth losing that isurance of a buffer? Same goes with nute burn... a heat spell in the summer... etc. Etc.

If your plant performs doing it, then its justified... if you have to convince yourself its really helping, its probably not :)

Just my 2 cents, and its worth about half that ;)

lol. iuno. i havent had an issue with defol.. but i also dont rip off EVERY FAN.. only the ones that block.. and i try to bend branches out of the way if i can before i pull them off.. basicly if its blocking a bunch of branches in veg that id like to see those branches become colas.. then fans go.. but i also dont pull lots in veg.. 1 here 1 there.. and so on . until the flip.. then after stretch. i pull a few to make sure that theres good air flow.. and so the light can get to all the branches needed to get some nice size colas. works well with lots of plants..

some plants hate it tho.. so remove slowly 1 here an 1 there.. cause ive had a few plants that if i pulled more then a few off.. they would slow down growth. but then ive pulled like 20 off some plants.. and had them take off with growth.. really genetics. .and if everything else is dialed in . it shouldnt do any damage.
