Desperate growers of Italy

I am new to this site. My husband and I have recently tried to grow our own. We made a PC grow box with two lights (I will have to ask him to be sure of what kind of lights). We purchased some seeds and put one in a pot. It started to sprout, but the seed seems to still be on the top. It has now been about 4 days like this. The plant is increasing in height, but there are no leaves. Also the plant has a rather brown hue. The brown color has got us a little concerned. I know this can be rather common, but should I attempt to remove the seed with some water or would it be better to just leave it be and let nature do its thing?

Hi and welcome! I have that happen sometimes. It will fall off on it's own I think but I will gently remove the seed shell from the plant by just opening up the seed shell like you would open up a clam. Take tweezers or a pin and pull on the botton edges of each side to spread it apart. Just be gentle and it will come off. Be careful not to overwater those little critters. Good luck!

Much appreciated. I guess I shot the gun on writing this thread because it actually came off. We are very pleased!!

Well you need 6000+ Kelvin lights. I guess you run CFL. If you run in a PC case provide enough ventilation. An extractor fan is a must. And don't keep the plant under constant wind if you are using coolers. If you plan to keep it in that PC case you will have to use a small pot and LST.

I am going to get some pics up today so it will be easier for the expert to give me advise. I will be happy to get everyone feed back.

Good advice from this thread.

6400k CFL lights are best for vegatative phase and 2700k for flowering.

Good luck with your grow, ciaociao :D

Glad you didn't have to do surgery! lol Those little things are so fragil at this stage of life. It seems that you're always wanting them to grow fast and get big and when they do you try to keep them from taking over your room. Come back in a month and show us some pics!
