Detroit Advice

This is my second harvest outside. I did 55gal pots and put them under a green house.


it seems Detroit weather is perfect up until flower starts. Any advice to grow some good dank and to adapt to this area. When do y’all pull? Do y’all believe in molasses? Let’s talk!

I need an early variety. I'm working on it. I use molasses in my compost tea. If that greenhouse isn't keeping the mold away I guess I don't want one. I'm near Jackson.

It has done very well with keeping mold and bugs away. With the green house being sealable I put lady bugs inside to control lil bugs and still spray just not as much. Honestly it also seems to help with drying out the dirt the sun isn’t directly drying up the dirt as fast which allows the plant to drink it up. All in all I would definitely suggest a greenhouse

Sounds good. Bud rot is definitely my biggest problem. I think growing in pots would drive me crazy but your crop looks good. I use a lot of mulch (leaves and wood chips) and fertilize with mostly fish emulsion but also use potassium silicate and the teas. I try to stick with living soil techniques and plant other crops with my pot for diversity. Of course I let the snakes and frogs be.

Try foliar sprays with the potassium silicate and also use potassium bicarbonate. It has served me well. I add ¼-½tsp castile soap per gallon for better coverage. I would also recommend using an airless sprayer.

Yes, I foliar spray the potassium silicate but right now my plants are short enough to use a watering can, but not for long. What varieties do you grow and when do they finish? GG4 from MSNL has been decent for me. Durban Poison is good and mold resistant but I don't care for the sativas much. Will look into the potassium bicarbonate.

Okay, potassium bicarbonate for the fungus. For fungus I use Actinovate but am switching to a cheaper alternative this year, recommended by ganjagirl.

I've grown I.G. Cush (just a specific phenotype of green Cush that we had), Passion Fruit, Sour Banana Sherbet and a strain we have come up with called, The Big Green Bastard. All very successfully. This year I have Passion Fruit, Sherbet, Quick Flowering THC and again, The Big Green Bastard. All of them growing in our hoop house, known as, "Parts Unknown!". The potassium bicarbonate and silica spray kept all of the mold and mildew at bay.
I got away with taking the two Sour Banana Sherbet plants out until December 2nd last year.
Growing in the hoop house is awesome. We are limited to five plants in Illinois and the hoop house made it possible to go really big and gave me my best harvest ever.. Just make sure there is plenty if air flow and exchange happening at all times, stay up on the sprays and inspect everything every day.

Sorry forgot to answer about when they finished. The I.G. Cush was done around Halloween, the Passion Fruit about the first or second week of November, the BGB was around the third week of November and the Sherbet plants were around Thanksgiving time (actually a little longer).
They took the cold well with the hoop house ends being covered in polyfilm and the sides ruled down. I did add some heat near the end, late at night and early in the morning. And all went well.
