Did I over water my Blueberry seedlings

Well I put the germinated seeds in soil. I put BioBizz light mix in 16 oz. cups and the I soaked the soil with water and let it drain out of the bottom and then I put the seed in the soil. The soil Stays really wet for like3 days and then starts to damp off and I have been watering ever 4-5 days. I wait until the cup is really light. Could be giving them to much water at once?

3-4 days is a good amount of time between watering.. I don't give any nutes till 3-4 weeks in..and start at 1/4 strength... Do you have any pro-mix or perlite in your soil for drainage ??... I use a 50-50% ratio... Luck

It all depends on your conditions but 4-5 days should be fine. The first week or so I put about 15ml of de-chlorinated tap water on the main stalk of each seedling every day. This water drips down the tap root and keeps it moist but doesn't over water it.

I use a version of the paper towel method to germ, has worked about 90-95% of the time which is the normal germination rate for seeds.

I put about as much water as the cup holds. I let it drain for a few mins and then take a stick (or pen or pencil) and stir the mix around to loosen it up a bit.

Now I tap the soil down VERY LIGHTLY so it's flat and use the stick/pin/pencil to poke a hole as big as the tap root is on the seed.

After dropping the seed into the hole I cover it with the tinest amount of soil and then VERY LIGHTLY water over top of where I buried the seed. You don't need to drown the seed, it's already germed and rooting, so you just want to make sure the tap root is wet and the soil has closed in around the seed. If I was forced to guess I'd say I use about 30 to 45ml (2 to 3 tablespoons) after the seed is in the soil.

I am thinking I should of not put water in the cup of soil and right before I put the seed in. I filled the cup up with water all the way and let it start draining. I am guessing that was to much water.

Its funny, I just started yesterday and I think I made all the same
mistakes you did. I filled each container with dirt... then filled
each with water... then punched holes through the bottom of each.
I did 30 in all and as I'm sure you can guess I made one hell of
a mess when the water shot out all over the place while I was
punching the holes last lol. I was sure I made the same mistake
almost immediately.

So I went out today and I bought a moisture meter as well as a
ph tester kit and ph up and down. Didn't take long to realize every
single mistake I made. Luckily I had about 15 more seeds that needed
to go into dirt still. I like to drop my seeds in cups half filled with distilled
water. I was going to use the paper towel method but read somewhere
that they start their growing process and loose their micro-roots
when they are pulled from the paper towel.

For some reason I just assumed that distilled water would be
ok for the first watering as well. Turns out the water was at
a PH of 4.0 to my horror.

So for the second batch I changed a couple things up which helped
a hell of alot. When I mixed my peat and perlite I added the water
this time before I put the dirt in the cups. Makes a world of
difference and 10 times more cleaner to boot.

Chances are that you made the same mistakes as me... did you
check your PH before you watered? Also try adding water to the
dirt before you put the dirt int he cups. Also the moisture meter
helped alot. Dirt in my first batch of cups are flat out WET...
whereas my new dirt mix is at perfect moisture level.

Wish me luck... got some purps... black dominia... 20 year old
skunk seeds...and blue satillite on the line. I'm guessing the solution for
me would be a full flush with new PH'd water at 6.0, though
I hate to have to do this so early in the plants life... haha
not even out of the dirt yet… but it beats dead seedlings.

Damn..good luck man. Good luck to me too. I now realized I should not of watered them until the water drained out the bottom of the cups. I should of just watered them alittle. I now realized that little ass root system does not need that much water when they are that small. Live and Learn. Damnit

Well on day three, 12 have popped up so not looking like such a bad things right now. I just left the wet ones alone till they dried out. Now I just water with a half cup of PH balanced when they get dry.

I still have a large amount that have still not come up yet... four days. I think I made the mistake of packing the dirt to tight as well. I think I locked a couple little ones under the dirt.

Odd thing is out of 40... every one of the purps came up. Only one or 2 of the others have broke the surface....
