did i put them in a pot too early

You have a long road ahead of you. No offense but I can tell you are a raw newbie.... Read the FAQ's on this site and others. My suggestion to you is to read read and when you get tired of reading read some more. Im not an experienced grower, but I know what works and what doesnt from reading on this site and others. Try and get familiar with the entire growing process so you always know what step is next so your always behind the eight ball... Good luck!
