Did something really stupid, and don't know what to do next.

I was really stressed at work, so I pulled up to a beach in my van, and decided to smoke weed, as I've done in the past. So, at a 4 way, I turned the wrong way, and scraped the side of my door into someone's lights. They looked well off, and it was a nice car. Well, this isn't the worst of it. Admittedly, I've been very careless, and so I didn't have my second level license, which bars me from driving alone.

The damage to his car was a front light on his car, but my van, which is a junker, the whole door is broken. I was in a panic, went up to talk with him, the other cars drove away, and he kept yelling at me. I said that he damaged my car badly, then he started talk about calling the police. I walked away and drove away.

I don't think my papers are tied to this location, so what can I expect? A knock at the door? What would be the best thing to do here? I don't make that much money, so am I going to be bankrupted here?

- A paranoid fool.

This is what insurance is for. He probably has a deductible that needs to be paid for repair. Pay it or deny. I'm a believer of karma nowadays.

Did you really blame him for the damage to your door?

Leaving the scene of an accident....

You went to speak with the owner of the other vehicle.
He was belligerent towards you and you left because he seemed to be getting more and more angry.
It unnerved you.

There's no need to mention driving whilst stoned.

But don't do it again.
It's not fair on other road users.

If you were Japanese (or an Ancient Roman) I'd suggest ritual suicide
but you're a Yank - so watch TV, eat hotdogs and avoid LITIGATION!

Damn all I can tell you is calm down. Shit happens to everyone we just have to deal with it. Don't let a job or your work upset you, seriously. I don't know where you work but I'm guessing your not shoving dick's in your mouth to make ends meet. All jobs suck but at least you have one. Don't ruin your shit over dumb stuff. I would contact the police, tell them what happened to at least cover your ass. The longer you wait the harder it will be. Just tell them you felt threatened. Chances are you are going to have to pay for his car, hopefully you are insured like drivers should be! Your insurance wont really go up. Let it be a lesson, it could have been a very very small minor incident that would have been done and over with this morning. Don't run from it, attack it head on and put your foot on it's throat!

I agree with this. Other than using the other guys belligerent attitude as a reason to drive off without exchanging insurance. The guy hit someones car and then accused the other guy of damaging his car. I'd have started calling the police myself.

Why not phone the police and explain what happened(minus the weed)? I'm guessing not based on how responsible you've already shown yourself to be. If you dont, hopefully it comes back to bite you in the ass in a few days.

I agree with taking initiative and going to the police. Don't know the ramifications of your restricted license will be though. But it is always better to seek them out on your own terms than have them find you under theirs.

Not so sure he is a Yank. Level 2 license? Maybe it is a California thing. I suspect he is in Monaco. They have the death penalty for unrestrained van mischief.

Maybe you did have a passenger and he just didn't notice them, right?
I scraped a car parking my van years ago, thought fuck it. Looks ok. Someone thought otherwise. Got a court summons for : driving without due care and attention, dangerous driving, no insurance, no tax, no mot, no license. They literally ticked every box and sent out the summons. I had a little poo in my trousers.
Of course, I had all the above and got off with small court costs and a few points, cos I was meek and appllogetic and got rid of my mohawk before the court date.
Moral of the story? Make the first move, avoid a haircut.

Refrain from judging his level of responsibility over this silly little story. sheesh, you guys have a way of making people feel like shit over any situation. It's the internet, not church or courtroom.

I have had nice vehicles that have been damaged by ppl backing into them and scraping up against them. I lost an entire door from this once. I NEVER got belligerent and screamed at them and made them feel threatened. But if I did, I cannot blame the other person for leaving. Some people would hurt another person over a damaged vehicle, a lot of people actually.. so why stick around to find out?

I see why you told him your vehicle was damaged more than his. Not to profile inappropriately, but since you said you drive a junker, I'm assuming you don't have money laying around to repair or buy new vehicles with like he likely does. (just now read the part where you said you don't have much $$ xD)
If you are blessed with wealth, you should not be so belligerent over a damaged headlight or w/e.

So yeah. I understand why you left, and you were right to do so. You should, however, own up to it and get it taken care of. And the fact that you care enough to ask a bunch of condescending fucks for their opinions on what you should do, gives me more respect for you.

The epitome of irony.

Some highly opinionated guy who writes 4 paragraphs of how and why you should deal with every aspect of the situation
and then goes on to describe everyone else as 'condescending fucks' for offering their own (far shorter) views.

By managing to condescend at the same time as he exposed his own idiocy, he truly deserves the self mockery he instigated in his response.
What a cunt!

Not necessarily, Baldrick.
Maybe their not even looking?
And, if you have a good reason for believing the situation has been resolved....
(Aka - having a story ready)
waiting for them can pay dividends.

xD I love it. You're correct though, about "condescending fucks." It technically is a condescending thing to say, but alas... I didn't expect a person to reply like you did. Why should I expect someone to reply trying to argue a point about condescension whilst simultaneously calling me a cunt, an idiot, and claiming I deserve mockery (all condescending things to say, if not worse)? Not to mention, I fail to see how being highly opinionated is an insult and how I was telling him every little way to deal with a situation that has already half happened. I was simply describing my opinion--something you just did although poorly--as to why I think he shouldn't be ashamed or have regret, like some above seem to think. And then I offered my advice, like I do daily on this forum.

Please, point out to me any falsehoods in what I've just said. Next, take your weak trolling efforts outta here ^.^

The guy drove into someone by his own admitance, possibly due to the fact that he was stoned, and then tries to blame the other guy, and then drives off without leaving any details. You are damned right i'm judging his level of responsibility.
