different effects of light duration

we all know that giving plants 18 hrs or more of light will keep them in a veg state.we also know that a schedule of 12/12 will induce flowering. now what i dont know is what will be the effects of giving them a schedule of light less than the 12/12 recommended (example 11,10,9,8 hrs of light.the reason for my asking is because i am planning on doing a greenhouse grow in the winter,the only problem is that where im at the winters have very short days going down to as low as 9 hrs of light.im thinking since thier is more darkness than light that the plants should be triggered to flower.can someone let me know what the outcome would be if i tried to go ahead wit the grow opp.

During flowering, your main concern is darkness, not so much the light schedule. As long as your plants have 12 or more hours of darkness, they'll continue to flower but at a slower rate than if you were giving 12 hours of light.

so as long s i give it 12 hrs of darkness and more they should flower normaly with just abit more to finish.do you know if the extended time of flowering is in days weeks or months

Not really sure how much longer it will take, as I've never had to do this. It could be that they'll finish roughly on time, but smaller than would have been possible with more light. You should consider using indoor lighting. You'll end up with dwarf plants growing in the winter unless you put them under some lights for the veg phase.

What Cr8z13 said is about it! T o put it into different words - the 12 hours (or more) of uninterupted darkness allow the plant to accumulate enough "Night Time" hormones to assure that it will continue in "Flowering Mode". The 12 hours (or less) of daylight, or "Lights-On", will power the photosynthesis process - allowing the plant to flourish and grow.

So the bottom line is, your situation of "Longer nights" and "Shorter days" wont make the cannabis "Flower more" - it will just make them "Grow less", but they will flower!

i wasnt to worried about quantity even though more is alway tolerable.i was more concern with being able to leave them to natures clock,if anything ill just add some lights and give them some extended supplemental lighting
