Cheap bulbs will cost you a lot more over the long run. Just had a 65$ 600wat blow up in my raptor and shattered my glass.

Find someone with an older used top of the line bulb and put it right next to a new 30 or 40$ bulb and you will see the difference.
Here is a pic of 5 flowering under a 600 watt ushio that was purchased last may and used for 2 other flowers before I used it in this tent.

They look better then plants I have under a new cheaper 1000 watt.

It's like dropping a dollar every time to bend over to pick of a nickle..
There's a big difference between cheap and inexpensive. The Ushio is a fine lamp, as is the GE. FWIW, the plant supporting the bud above was grown using a GE 600HPS lamp. In my garden, under the GEs, I pull ~2.5oz for every square foot of space, dry/cured (soil, no CO2).

Been using digital ballasts for years with non digital bulbs. Never had one blow out or give me an issue. Maybe I'm just lucky but I don't plan on buying over-priced digital bulbs in the future.

edit: I use Galaxy and old Infinite ballasts with 400, 600 and 1000 watt Hortilux and Ultra Sun bulbs

That's odd cowboy as that's the bulb that blew out in my galaxy ballast in like a month or so.. idk if different digital ballast fire at different frequencies or what the dillio is with that..
I think the difference is how the ballasts fires the bulb. Lumatek uses 'soft start' technology meaning it initially fires the bulb in stages, not hitting it with 600 watts right off the bat. But rather starting at a lower wattage and over about 45secs-1min time stepping up the wattage in stages until it reaches full power of 600 watts(I am using a 600 as an example).
