Nichia makes citizen too... Most big corporations don't like being involved with cannabis. Samsung distances themselves from it as well. Its actually surprising they acknowledge us sometimes. Korea and Japan are a much more conservative bunch than here in the states.

I thought Citizen did thier own packaging not at the Nichia factory. I'm not 100% sure though cause citizen have always been a fucking lying cunt of a company but Nichia has always been awesome. I guess now I need to go to Japan and find out for myself. Thanks for making me curious

Probably because the new horti strips are still not available and with deep red strips you could create your own white/deep red light. I'm searching myself for cheap enough 2ft deep-red strips to combine them in a 3 or 4:1 ratio with 4k/CRI80 strips.
The spectrum shifts towards 3500°k/CRI90 and a light build like this would be pretty efficient.
So its also interesting if there are alternative solutions to create something like the horti strips youself. The 5600°k + deep red mix (5150°k) is anyway not optimal as stand alone indoor spectrum. These strips are more siuted for greenhouses and
leafy greens.

But I agree! The interest in Sammy's horti strips is not very high for the reasons mentioned. With an own thread he would certainly attracts more attention.
 
The world is full of idiots and I'm 100% sure you'll also find a few in the Luminus factory. As long as you get what you pay for... Osram has no problem to create growlights and as soon as this market gets more profitable Samsung and others will stop refusing to not offer LED modules for cannabis industry. Each grow module can be used for cannabis because this plant can adapt to a wide range of light. Even with the non optimal 5150°k spectrum of their horti design you can grow weed. Mix them with a few warmwhite H-influx strips and you have already a siutable 4k indoor spectrum. So its anyway nonsense to refuse to make growlights!

As soon as the profit goes up, they will relinquish their dislike.

What my biggest dislike about Samsung is that they used another company to do the research for them and then cut them out of the deal and tried to go directly to the public through digikey and all the other distributors. I think they are scum for doing that. But businesses is business, Samsung will never get my led business for that reason
 
I think Cree will be the next manufacturer to release a full horticultural lighting fixture. I don't know if it will be good but Cree has no problem in releasing a fixture and they have a new owner now that purchased a brand to make some serious money

What company do you speak of? We have worked with them for 2 yrs plus. The horticulture red 660 was our suggestion as well as the blue and yet to be announced 634 nm. I've been telling them they should make a larger die 3030 660 and 634 with a drop in footprint for the 301b. Create a single footprint horticulture design for maximum flexibility for custom spectrums for customers with specific wants/needs. Thier 660 isn't quite on par with Osram and Cree but we will see them in a couple weeks and recieve the new 660s that are supposed to be on par with the Olson SSL. Luminous is decent in 660 as well.

I am referring to your company, are they going to give your company any money each time one of thier own products are sold on digikey? they should give you something for doing the hard work and taking the financial risks you have done.
I agree about the footprint, the footprint would be ideal if it was uniform and matched a 3030 foot print. I have said it before, the big companies are dumb arses. I am having custom 5050 chips made to keep a uniform foot print, I can not do this with 3030 chips at the moment and that's because the higher performance chips simply do not fit into that package in reds. We could make a package that would allow the high performance reds to fit but I don't have enough cash to pay for the moulding. The best I have been able to do right now is the 5050 PC red. It's not ideal in terms of performance but it is a really nice spectrum. I am focusing on improving the blue spectrums before I go back to the reds. I will also have my own range of 3535 leds in a few months with very high performance and quality but lower cost than the big guys.

I was wondering about nichia...arecthey any good?I seen them on the cutter boards but don't know if tgere chips are as good as 301b

Maybe even not enough green output ,when at high densities ( > 800 mol/sec/m^2) .

An unbalanced “burple” with a hint of green & yellow .

The R&D department behind this Sammy horti-strip ,for sure did not
have cannabis in mind .
3000•K 80Ra +660 would have been
a much better choice ..Maybe not the best , but still a very good one .

On the other side ,
it ‘s an ideal example of
how a LED strip designed for horticultural purposes ,
should be protected from heat and from quite a few of other environmental hazards .

This is pure green house lighting: sunlight(ish...) spectrum + 660.
Would be a good supplement to hps
