Direct Buy = Stay Away!

So I signed up at Direct Buy from a recommendation from a friend.

I was expecting the membership to cost $100-200, but it cost almost $5000!!! Yes 5k!

So my friend reassured me that it was worth it in the end from all the savings I would get. Well...he was right up until I actually bought something.

The first thing I bought was a washer and dryer. It was $400 less than what I would have paid at a big box store, but here is the catch, you need to pay for shipping. Not the shipping to deliver it to your house, but to the store! Isnt that fucked? Anyways, that was an extra $250 for shipping to the store! So now I am saving $150. Then I had to pay to get it shipped to my house which was another $100, so I saved $50! Wow! They let you do a quick inspection of the washer and dryer, then pack it back up for shipping. The washer and dryer looked good from what I could see.

So I get it home and the washer was fine, but the dryer had a huge dent inside that I couldnt see or even know about until I turned on the machine. I took it back(paid a friend $50 to help me bring it back, so total savings is $0 now) with the receipt, but they said I need the "box". So I went home, found the box, but it had some water damage on it. They said they wouldnt take it back! But, they offered a repair team to come. The repair team came, said they couldnt fix it and now I saved $0 on a dryer I cant use or take back, despite having the receipt and being within 15 days of the purchase, isnt that fucked?

So the story goes, STAY AWAY FROM DIRECT BUY!!

These guys are well known rip offs. Just do a search on "Direct Buy complaints" and you'll likely see 1000 or more people complaining about their business practices, etc. First there is a fee, that can be anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Then they rip you in various other ways, including shipping and set up fees among other charges. TOTAL FUCKING RIP OFF........ I can't believe in todays world people are still giving them their $$$$$$$$$.

If it was on CC, just say your card was stolen, you never did those transfers, and get another card. You got fucked, now go fuck them back.

The thing is, we are redoing almost everything in our place, so in the long run it would have been cheaper.

Thing is, it's not necessarily cheaper. You can only purchase merchandise from vendors they carry and they don't have everyone. I know some people who have waited months for their merchandise and then when it arrived, it was't exactly what they ordered. Then they had to pay a fee for them to unbox it and put it together. Then had to pay to delivery it. I imagine if you are buying everything- furniture, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, fridges washer/dryer/dish washer, carpets, t.v.'s, etc., etc.- you may save something. But in the world of big-box stores (home depot, lowes, etc.), especially in a down economy- I'll bet in the end it won't be worth it. At least that's the impression I'm getting after reading about 20 reviews from unhappy customers that were in the same boat as you........ and when they tried to sue them, they didn't get shit back.

Yeah. Don't do that. Your not going to get away with it.

Instead, because you are still innocent - dispute the charges and get your money back from the CC company. You used their money to pay for it, not yours. Remember, you have a very large multi-national corporation backing all your purchases. If anyone fucks with your money through a credit card, the credit card company will straight up go after them

lol, no I didnt pay with CC. They had a deal on at the time if any member signed up a new member, they both would get 10% off their next membership. So I had to sign up through my friends account. Anyways, I said sure and bought the washer and dryer, but i still havent given my friend the payment for the membership, does that make sense? Basically I havent paid my friend the $5000 yet for the membership and I am waiting to see if he asks me for it lol. He probably will and I will lose a friend, but he shouldnt have told me to sign up. He will be just as upset, but what else can I do?

Hold on...... you paid $5K for the membership????????????? WTF, you deserve to be had buddy. I see most people pay between $800-$1700 for a membership. The way it works is they state "it's a limited time offer just today" or something along those lines so people don't have time to think about it or do research on the internet. Also, Better Business Bureau has logged 1000's of complaints too. These are all locally owned, they can set whatever price they want for a membership. I'm guessing your buddy is making out on you in some way for an additional discount. As you can tell, I looked into it previously and did my home work and declined their offer. They got nasty with me. Fuck them.......
