State health officials Friday release the names of companies that will receive the first 20 licenses to open medical marijuana dispensaries in Massachusetts.
In Middlesex County, licenses will go to facilities slated for Lowell, Ayer, Newton, and Cambridge. In Norfolk County, the locations are in Brookline and Quincy. In Suffolk County, two are slated in Boston.

In Plymouth county, licenses will go to facilities slated for Plymouth and Brockton. And in Worcester County, the locations are in Milford and Worcester. In Essex County, they are slated in Salem and Haverhill.

Here are the others: Mashpee and Dennis in Barnstable County; Taunton and Fairhaven in Bristol County; Holyoke in Hampden County; and Northampton in Hampshire County.

Counties without a selected dispensary include Berkshire, Franklin, Dukes and Nantucket.

Weren't there already a couple, with one already in worcester? I drive by a "CannaMed" in Framingham, that is a dispensary, correct? Unless it's just some sort of recommendation for medical marijuana office.

Cannamed is a doctors office that issues recommendations if you qualify. There don't provide medicine or offer any advice on where to obtain it.

I hear once the dispensaries open you cannot grow your own unless you can prove hardship (cant drive, cant afford the prices). seems to me like the local gov. wants to get there hand on every $ they can.

Even if you can't drive if you live near a dispensary that delivers they will say you can't grow.

Unfortunately you may be right. Growing up in MA, New England always had more of a community sense to me than my perception of other parts of the U.S. With that said it'd be awfully sad to see a disproportionate system of MMJ arrive in MA.

I can picture it now..... rich kids from the Newton area, Deluxberry down through the cape (you know the types I'm generalizing), supporting a top heavy industry of rich kids getting high lol!

Wait to see what happens. I think MA is just being MA- aggressively and stubbornly scared and speculative about anything that hasn't been around for 20+ years. With a little time and hope marijuana in MA should be very accessible and transparent- ultimately leading to great community benefits, and especially great medicine!

Its all politicians and thier cronies trying to monopolize the game and get rich off of us..I do not need or want dispensery weed with a 25% tax that is grown by someone who does not even smoke..no thanks

ya alot of retired cops.. and or dirtbags.. got all the dispensary lisences .. they havent really opened shit yet..and the ones that are open.. are fuckng a joke.. the worst bud for the highest prices.... like i have said in the past. most of the time the black market is a better marketplace then the dispensary shit..

It's all politics.
Just want them to ease up a bit on home growing andgive us the choice of wether we want to grow or buy from a dispensary.hardship bull shit sucks
