Greetings everyone

It's been some years since i last purchased my MARS II. I think I got the idea via this site actually.
So anyway, the time has come for me to get some fresh new gear. Therefor I have been looking at DIY LED projects on google.
Nothing has changed, I mean... Surely everything has changed with the LED's, but it is still as hard to settle on something now, as it was back then.
Therefor I am asking for your advice. My ideal plan is to have 1000 actual watts sitting in my room. not nessecary in a one piece lamp, since I wont be able to afford that.
Therefor I was thinking of making 4 x 250 watt or 2 x 500 watt. I want it to be as simple to build as possible (one of those LED on heatsink with reflecter kinda thing), while
also being as cost effecient, both to build, but also to run.
Like I said i've been looking around, but I do not have a master degree in google, and I end up finding only old topics...

So please people. Enlighten me on which LED's i should go with. Do I go COB or this new quantum LED? Any help is really appriciated. BTW I am from EU, if that means anything
when shopping parts.

Best regards
Mikkel

Welcome, Mikkel.
Can you give us some more info on the dimensions and layout you're trying to work with? I currently use Vero29SE's on a pair of 320W bars. Simple, effective but it can create some hotspots when it's maxxed out. I think the goal for lighting is a consistent but intense spread of photons. Using more cobs run at lower wattage can do the job but it's more economical to use boards or strips to do the job.

Mars are mediocre products at best.

1000w MARS is typically < 500w, with low umoles, the spec that is most important when selecting a light

COB or Quantum will both work great and are very efficient.. we would need to have your room/tent dimension so we can better help you with how many lights you need.. also whats your budget?

But you'll see much better result than your mars II and probably just cost as much if you diy

Hi again :)

The thing is I do not have a room nor a tent set up yet. I do have a sapre room in my apartment though. The idea is to have a 4x4 size area with scrog. I want to grow CBD rich plants for my ADD and my fathers back pains.. I've heard 1000 watt will be good for that space :)
I dont have a budget as it is. But I can't afford to pay 5000 dollars in once at one lamp. Thats why I was thinking of building 4 x 250 watts, so I can do it over time, as I get the money for it. :)

For a 4x4 you could look at the quantum qb-288 4 boards , 2 drivers comes with heatsink would cost about 650usd for the light diy at about 500w comparable to a 1000w hps and should cover your 4x4 area. Id look at getting a tent they are not very expensive and will allow you to better control the temperature and humidity for your plants. Overall you can probably get everything you would need for 1300usd(including exhaust fan, carbon filter- you may not need if you dont care about odor, etc.) or less and get some great results for your 4x4 space.

Mikkel, although I've always used led's since I started growing indoors I have to say that using HID lighting is always more economical to start with. Only reason I don't use it is because of thermal management for my grow space-I don't want to A/C the room. If you're able to vent the heat from the lamps it makes more sense to go that route unless you're willing to invest in the best components you can afford-there isn't ANY advantage in using blurple's over HID so why bother. Lots of great advice so far.
