DIY 4oz. minimum yield grow box

4.then we bought 6 pots, well actually small trash cans and cut holes in the bottom for airation and water exit.
5. we put telephone books and boxes underneath the pots to raise them up to lights. when you have no more option for growth you have to build a spacer, i did this by buying another rubbermaid tub and cutting the bottom off it making it a nice spacer. then we tapped that to thetop of the bottom tub raising the height about bouble. worked great

how did you make a spacer and also I have a similar set but have'nt tried it yet what are some of the problems you ran into besides space?

I see where you said you cut the bottom out of another one but how did you get it to stay up like that cause they are made to fit inside one another for easy storage. I know you had to use more then just tape to hold it up like that.

Awesome CFL buds, I love these types of boxes. So cheap to setup, simple and it works well.

Where could I get that metal thing holding all of the cfls?
Does it automatically have the sockets attached with the metal thing? or did you string those in or something?

I have a Rubbermaid double stacker myself, I used 3/4" aircraft grade aluminum chain I got at Canadian tire to secure the fixtures that are threaded through the top lid, 1 1/2" scew is screwed on the lid and I just screw down the chain after adjusting fixture height. All fixtures were made with a lamp cord with a Standard fixture socket with leads attached. I used y-splitters for the additional bulbs. Starting to need some kind of fixture frame for bulb spacing, gonna use wire hangers and try to make a fixture trellis so to speak. No pics up yet as I haven't had time to post on Pc, just mobile... Anyone curious to see b4 I post, pm me and i'll email you one.

I'm not sure I'll ever try a scrog, never know though,but it seems like alot of extra work and I usually take my ladies right out of the box to feed and maintain, not too mention rotate. I think for this design it may become very difficult to work on them if there's a screen. I'm at the point where they are just growing past the bottom chamber it'll be nice when the canopy is clear of the bottom so I can see just how feasible 5 2gallon pots will be when it comes to removing top chamber deep into flower. One box just got finished and is day 2 of flower the other one hit day16 of flower. Lol

That fixture sells for 19.99 at Lowes.

I like Heefers idea for raising and lowering it.

I'd use a three prong appliance cord for wiring up the fixture. It will run you all of 4-5 bucks and matches up with three leads coming out of fixture. It's pretty simple just match color to color,twist the stripped ends together and use wire nuts to cover and secure the wire. I like to use tape on each connection before attaching the nuts but I'm kind of OCD.

You can get 12 quart trash cans for 1-3 bucks at any Dollar type store. You could fit six to eight of them in there easy.

I'd use 120 volt fan. Wall warts get hot regardless of how they're used,I don't think I'd want to push them by cycling them on and off with a surge from a timer? You could go with a standard two prong cord for 120v computer fan.

That looks like a good way to make something useful out of the fine junque any real man would have stashed around the house. Red Green would be proud and Buzz Sherwood happy.

Hey dudes! Would somebody mind posting up a tutorial on how to wire up a cord to one of those vanity lights? How do you know what size of wire nuts to use? Thanks, I know I just posted something similar in another thread. I'd just really like to set my tub up and get a grow on.

Red wire to red wire, black wire to black wire, green wire to green wire. As far as wire nuts go, the orange ones from ideal will work, but if you're in doubt just check the back of the box and it'll tell you what each model is capable of.

Strip an extension cord, the hot wire comes from the skinny plug and has writing on it. No tutorial needed, just connect the wires and plug it in. I've done it a dozen times already, easy breezy.

You're going to need to have all of the CFLs on a two way splitter. Having the CFLs point downward is a waste of energy. Most of the light coming off a CFL bulb goes to the side, so you're just wasting energy with those straight bulbs. They all need to be in splitters like the other ones because that angles it, at least.

cfls can be mounted or strung in any fashion. My next build is going to be cfl strings on shower curtain rods, can be mounted anywhere, any height. Splitters aren't necessary for optimal position, but they will double your output.

Just some quick questions. What nutes? And how long did you let those beautiful girls flower for?

dude where did you get that carbon filter sponge or w/e it is? and why is everybody asking the same qeustions over and over. i love to read about cannabis., so i read what he said. hell i almost read everyones questions but i got tired of reading the same ones continuously. i mean i can understand being stoned and lazy and not wanting to read but like i said i love to read about cannabis stoned or not, and if you read instead of just looking at the pics then you'd see that he said on pages 1 and 2 what the watts were and on 1 2 and 3 where he got everything except the carbon filter unless i missed it in the way later pages where i started seeing no more replies and stoped reading does anyone else know where this filter can be purchased. from what i have read and understand its like = to 900 watts of light and exzaust fan in place and just a hole for intake = better exzaust than having a fan for intake and exzuast., and also from what ive researched having just the exzaust fan pulling air out and the intake being passive lowers temps better than if you were pulling air out with a fan and pushing air in with a fan.i dont know if you are still checkin this thing but i would definatley like to know about that carbon sponge filter thing. not only am i a research junky but ive also become a diy junky. i think if i can biuld it for cheap and it works like exspensive than why the heck wouldnt i do it? and theres a whole mess load of diy carbon filters on here but i havent seen one tell me where i can get the carbon sponge filter i would think maybe home depot or wal mart but when i looked for it i couldnt find it. but if you can wipe out the smell of those awsome dank plants with that sponge carbon filter then i must find it ive made quite a few different filter designs and they all work decently but im always messin around with making another one. oh and props like a mofo on the box and yield your ladies are absolutley beautiful.

oh yeah and i agree with dudebuddy it would totally be cool to scrog in that thing. might even up yur yield. oh and ive heard that its true about the whole positioning the cfl's more horizontally than vertically being better. i plan on makeing a similar light fixture but ill be using like 2 power strips and socket adapters mounted to a reflector that keeps the bulbs more diagonally positioned.

the whole chip bag idea is awsome. i thought about doing that years ago. you guys are funny.
