DIY Air Scrubbers????

Hi RIU -
I have a 20 inch scrubber with a 6 inch flange. I'd like to replace the carbon and reuse it. Anyone have any idea how many pounds of carbon it takes to refill one of these? Is it worth it to recycle the scrubber or no?
Thanks.

carbon is messy, and the particles can be finer than dust i tried opening mine and lost a lot just by farting. stuff gets everywhere. i just buy a whole new canister much better for me. not too expensive. only have to buy a new one every 2 years or so.

I heard you can bake them in the oven to "reactivate" the carbon but I've never done it. It's a mess, not impossible to clean up. I would just get a new one, There was a hydro shop where I use to live that would sell their own and you could exchange them like empty propane tanks.

go to the pet store and wal mart. grab up a carbon filter cartridge from wal mart for a air purifier, i think its a universal thing that you cut to size for your unit, its basically a green scrubby pad made out of carbon fiber.

something like this
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Whirlpool-Charcoal-Pre-Filters-Small-4pk/19426870

then get some of this

open up can and use a shop vac with a filter to suck out the old carbon, then insert the filter (from wal mart) into the can,

something like this

then pour the activated carbon in the middle...the reason for the inserts is to just keep the activated carbon from coming out and it also gives a little more odor protection.
