Diy cob's led, first time, 4x4 tent

Hi everyone, thnx for this great forum, glad i finaly made a account.
First of all, i apologize for my bad english. Im learing it all on my oun. I hope i dont get jugded on that.

My passion for diy leds started a few months ago, after i bought my first led growlight. After using it i saw few things that i dident like. So i started to look for a better light and this time i did a reseach before buying a light. Then i started to learn why i didnet like my oun led.
My led ( uniteck 450l full spec 450w) use 300w out of wall (minimum) and a small footprint, noice, very hot spot inmiddle (reflecor) and the most important of all for me is yield and no fluffy weed.
I know its stupid to buy something without doing some researche. But its a lesson, i alway can use the light for veg only, or use the parts for making a veg or bloom light.

So i started to look for a different light and i saw that full spectrum like spectrum king is great light but again price (1050€ with dimmer) and i found good and bad stuff about it and start sending some mail to them and diddent realy like the light after all.

Now if i pay €1000 for a king i can get a hlg 550 or some quantom board and make my oun led, then i saw that i cant get it where i leave. also out of stock and if i buy it with shipping and over sea cost and taxes and stuff it will cost me 1500€+.

And now with only this options i started to look for diy led, and found "growmau5"
. I started to look at his channel, now i saw it almost all and i can say just thnx alot man. Great stuff and great way of teaching.

Now im going to build my oun led, for a 4x4 tent. I like to start with only 16 cob's (cree 3590 3500k) @ 700ma.
Im going to use 2 MW hlg 320h c700.
Cause i want in future add 4 or 6 4000k cob's.
Total of 10 cob/ driver =360v @ 700ma is 252W or 277W with 11 cobs.
And also after first or 2nd grow ill add some deep red and ir, uvb and those extra cobs to it. Thats why ill take the b version of drivers.

Ill start first with 16 cob on rails so i can replace it eazy in future. It will be like the canopy 10. Also passive heatsinks.

Now what you guys think of this kind of setup? Is it overkill? Anyone tried this cobs @ 500ma?

For someone who's teaching himself the language, you're doing remarkably well. Good job! And good luck on your build. You're going to love it.

Is it really necessary to add UVB, ir, blue,..?
And using 4000k cobs?
It's not that I have money over to throw away.
First I was thinking of using 16 cobs @ 700ma. And some deep red for the end of the day in flower. Just because I read that it can take forever to harvest.

I know that 4x4 is poor mans grow, but i don't need more, i hope . Also by law, we can't smoke or grow but they "don't" care what you do in your house as long there are no problems with neighbors. ( so if they cant find out its legal )

And because of high energy prices i don't want to run 600w or 1000w hps. Also heat. I grow one year on hps and could not manage heat.

It's not necessary to add anything to your COBs. Many growers here use only 3000k or 3500k lights for their entire grows, and have great results.

Great plan. keep planning and include various spectrum as needed and available funds. Blues help to provide energy for the reds to produce growth, the two colors work together. IR is not so much needed, as UVA around 385nm. IR causes more heat than it is worth, my experience.

Personally, if cost is a consideration, I would drive the cobs as hard as they will take and use less of them. I routinely drive cobs at 110-120% drive current, of course you loose a few percent of overall efficiency but if you factor cob outlay over cost per KW of electricity it takes a long time to recoup the extra costs of running more cobs at lower watts as you might only be getting an extra lum per watt more. The Vero 29's and Luxeon 1211's both soak up massive over current without risking blowing the cob, you just add extra heatsinkink and bigger cooling fans.

Thnx a lot for the quick response.
The cost is not really an issue. Because of the high price for weed and the risk to buy it. I just like the weed of 600w hps, few friends are using it a long time with great results, but again they have problems with heat. And they want to change to led too.
After a lot "research" I saw that 16cobs @ 700ma or 1050ma would have the same and better results.

Weed cost here easy 11 to 15$/ gram.
So if I have 1gr/w or close to that, I have after one run my whole cost back.
( 1gr/w out of wall) so I think with 16cobs @700 will 400w.

Also with a good setup, I hope I'm good for few years. I think.
I'm new to this, I just don't want to buy something that i regret in future.

Hack all your old cob with some citezen cob just like growmau then u be good .
If u want to make it easer get socket to .
