DIY cool tube question

Hey guys,
I have a very quick question regarding a diy cool tube. If I purchase a wing reflector, am I able to simply mount a glass/plastic tube on it that I can connecet a duct to? I'm talking about the basic reflectors with nothing but a socket. I feel like it would be cheaper than buying a cool tube hood. Thanks for the help

Honestly, the price difference between a basic wing reflector and a cool tube is likely cheaper than making one. It's like a $30 difference.

But, if you're set on this route it will be fine as long as the tube you use can take the heat and is thick enough not to crack or break if you get water droplets or something on it.

I wouldn't risk it, personally. I don't like random breakage. ;)

I just feel this would be better as most cool tubes are 24 inches and that's the width of my tent. I found a package and for that reflector and a 400 watt dimmable ballast for $60

get an air cooled hood, that should be about the same size as the wing and give you the same cooling effect as a tube. No idea the price difference, but to diy a cool tube you need a six inch diameter pyrex tube, you could possibly get one from a glassblower or from an art glass website. The alternative is to search internet for pyrex bread tube

I did that very same thing, but have since moved on to vented hood. I still have lots of glass tubes. lol I only broke one in the couple years I used it.
