DIY ebb and gro controller for 50$

Hi,

My friend and I built a 'poor mans ebb and gro' bucket system. The controller works just like a flood table, except we use a bucket instead of a table, the other buckets fill to the same level as the controller/flood bucket. The overflow for the controller bucket controls the level in the buckets without using float switches.

Very very cheap and effective system. We uploaded a video of it to youtube.

Will update this if folks are interested in seeing more of it.

We used a single overflow in the controller bucket at first, but it couldn't keep up with the 396 GPH pump so a second overflow was added.

We also used 1/2 inch hoses and fittings. I would suggest using 3/4" or 1" because the 1/2" takes 15 minutes to fill all the buckets to the back of the room. Either way, this system is kicking ass....they are growing obscenely fast.

Holy crap that is pretty cool. I am looking for another way to supplement using the ebb and flo control bucket that controls the flood. Any other versions besides the gravity method?

That is awesome. I was looking for an idea like this. Can you show a picture of the actual setup? did you use bulkhead fittings with pipe attached or what? Awesome idea +rep and looking forward to hearing all the gritty details. Lots of pics plz

pretty sweet, although those ABS mixing tubs from the hardware store with nursery pots might be lil bit 'cheaper' in the end… but I'm not hating, it is a very sweet and resourceful setup

awesome. that is like the 2 liter bottle thing except with real buckets. Not to rain on your parade. that is cool. I was wondering if it fills the rest of the buckets consistently. 15 mintues sounds good. I have been dying to find a way to flood buckets other than ebb and grow and for myself settled on 10 gallon rubbermaids on a 3x3. But this is righteous. I use recycled tire mulch as media for my stuff as it is fully reusable and has no dust and is cheap and need no cleaning.
