Diy Filter experiences ?

hi all , reading up on DIY filters there seems to be a mixed bag of opinons , as the title says could anyone whos dealth with DIY filters give me there personal experiences when using one

I used an old pineapple tin can cut both sides of it got some thin fabric rummberband it to one side then glue it down let it dry then fill with carbon 6$ from walmart 2 small computer fans zip tie them together put another piece of cloth over the carbon inside of the pineapple can with a little glue make sure its backed good then glue the filter to the cpu fans it fights right in a 4in duct
