Opulent Americas sells 12 Cree XP-3G top flux bin LEDs on a 2" x 6" Metal Core PCB with Dual Poke-In Connectors which accept 18-24 AWG solid or stranded wire. 70, 80, and 90 CRI, pre-installed Thermal Interface included. Digikey qty 10 pricing is about $17 ea. Datasheet attached.
Cree showed that 144 XP-3G + 48 Deep Red LEDs is nearly the equivalent of a Gavita Pro HPS 1000W . And that was with the fixture at 59" above the canopy. These boards (without the power connector) look almost identical to the modules Cree used in their June 2016 Horticulture Reference Design which was an equivalent to the Gavita Pro HPS 1000W (see attached PDF).
12 of these boards could be attached to a $60 12" x 12" heatsink from HeatsinkUSA and powered by two Mean Well HLG-320H-C1050B @ $90 ea.
Total cost would be between $450 and $500. The Cree XP-G3 (datasheet attached) are the most efficient LEDs available which means the most PPFD per watt. The 50% savings in electricity vs. HPS, over time would pay off.
