DIY Rosin Press - Plate Quality and Squeeze Pressure?

I've been looking into a DIY Rosin Press. Just for personal use 7g / 14g / 28g squishes. Not too much more really.

1) Is there a major difference between the "China" Rosin Plates and brand name plates like "Dabpress" or "Low Temp Plates"?


2) Is there a major difference in yield and quality between a 10Ton Shop Press and a 20Ton Shop Press?
- I found a nice small table top H frame 10Ton press with gauge without the huge bottom stand (this is a "name brand" one)
- I found a 20 Ton shop press H frame with the entire bottom frame with no gauge (this is a from a wholesaler)
- both are around the same price.

There is rely no need for those high tonnage units. I am researching this currently and saw your post and thought i might be able to help.
The following information is from low-temp plates. Which i just received. Second, you calculate the surface area of the puck you are pressing. For this example, we will say it's a 2x4 puck, which is 8 sq in.

Finally, you take your total force and divide it by the surface area of the puck! 20,000/8= 2,500 platen psi.

Im using one of the china setups from amazon with a 10 ton press. It was just under 700$ all in Canadian. Its a caged 3x5. So far it presses great, only a 5 degree Fahrenheit variation across the plates.

Yes, first it depends on your setup if your using a 2x4 puck then you have 8 square inches. To apply 1000 psi you need 8 tonnes. If your press can only do 10 tonnes then you are pushing it to its max basically. A 20 tonne you wouldn't even be half way so alot more efficient and can crank it even higher than 1000 psi.

Personally I cheated out and went the 10 tonne cuz I got it on sale at Canadian Tire for just over 200$ Canadian.
I would have preferred to go 20 tonne.

Quality is more about finding your sweet spot. For me its 180 degrees for about 3 mins using 160 micron bags at 8 tonnes. And of course using very good flower.
