DIY with Quantum Boards

If you're willing to DIY, you can get more for less. Either way, an HLG300 is way more light than you need in a 2x2; it's more suited to a 3x3. What's your max budget for lighting?

DIY is fine

Id like to spend 600 at most with a company lik hlg, any company whose stuff I can find showcased locally like hlg is fine or is a USA based and manufactured. Any manufacture making their boards in China I’m not going to want to do business with. I wanted to do 5 x 5 tent with an hlg 550 but changed my mind when I figured I needed separate light for veg so settled for a hlg 300.

I’m fine reducing tent size if that means not losing light quality and still affording a good light. Just need something from hlg I think

nah screw them, they were using the QB name and were hit with a temp ban on Alibaba.
u think I care if they use the qb name not really all the sellers are calling them qbs lol. its just a pcb with leds on them and I was saying that because a fucking plant just wants light lol

nah, youre sending peeps to KB... who rip off HLG. its not that complicated

What exactly was ripped off? Just curious, as far as I know in a capitalist system, one company leads the way with innovation, will be followed by others copying that design and tech, and competing with it, and then bringing the price down across the board. It is samsung who made an efficient diode. Therafter its just putting them on a board, and adding a driver and connecting the whole system. It would be silly to think that HLG, will be only company in all of future human history making Samsung Diode LED boards and beyond.

The exact design down to being copied to the mm was ripped off along with the name. Is that the same as making a pcb with Samsung diodes on it?

You could definitely light a 5x5 for under $600 if you're ready to DIY. Six of the v1 QB288 boards in 3000k (with Slate 2 heatsinks from HLG), three Meanwell HLG-240H-C2100 drivers (or three HLG-320H-54 if you want to be able to push the boards to the limit), and some aluminum channel, screws, wires, etc. would definitely be within your budget and would rock a 5x5 easily. That said, if you downsized to a 4x4, you could stretch that $600 to cover both a flowering tent and a 2x2 veg tent.

For a 5x5...

Six of these:

Three of these:

For a 4x4...

Four of the boards linked above.

Two of the drivers linked above, or one of these two (the 600 obviously gives you more power, but you may find that it's not needed in a 4x4):

That would leave you with plenty of money left to outfit a 2x2. One of these is a quick, easy, relatively affordable entry point for a small veg area (though you could certainly DIY the veg light too, if you want to go the extra mile):

There are many other configurations and options for your build, but these are a good starting point for your research. Best of luck!

Is the diy for the 5 x 5, 4 x 4 a veg and flower light? I'm trying to be able to complete one full cycle for 600 for lights.

Ahh, I see. Yes, 3000k is a very suitable spectrum for full cycle, seed-to-harvest growing. I veg under 3000k myself, and have always been very happy.
Should I get 6 of these instead and just use full cycle for veg and flower? I don't know if those are the the next step up equivalent of the other one.
