DJ SHORT......Blueberry vs True Blueberry

howdy all,

wondering if anyone can shed some light on the preferred "blueberry" here.....

Would you go with the blueberry, or the true blueberry and if so can you please explain why.

Wanting to dabble into something really tasty and thought blueberry was a good choice.

I have a friend that enjoyed some blueberry 5+ years ago, and he swears the buds tasted just like blueberries.

Thanks in advance :-)

DJ Short - True Blueberry
The ultimate hybrid of Blueberry expression, selected for its superior quality from a large pool. This hybrid contains the best from both worlds (indica and sativa). Medium height with long, fruity and productive buds of medium sized calyxes. Beautiful lavender hues become apparent soon into the flowering cycle. The finished product is of the highest quality with sweet, elongated blueberry buds destined to please the most finicky of palates. High resin production as expected from the Blue family.

We developed Blueberry from different new genetic lines, genetics that are unique to Europe. Not only Blueberry, but also Blue Velvet and Flo are developed from totally new genetics. These seed strains are of the highest quality and have not been grown in Europe before.

Blueberry is a mostly Indica (80% Indica, 20%Sativa) strain, that dates to the late 1970`s. A large producer under optimum conditions. A dense and stout plant with red, purple and finally blue hues, that usually cure to a lavender blue. The finished product has a very fruity aroma and taste of blueberry. It produces a notable and pleasantly euphoric high of the highest quality and is very long lasting. Medium to large calyxes. Blueberry has a long shelf life, stores well over a long period

my understanding is that the blueberry line can be a bit finicky, to put it nicely, to grow out, and often times feature crinkle leaf on it's plants..
the true blueberry was breed in order to work out a bit of the finickyness of the bb strain, not sure how well that all went thought tbh..

From my experience, I liked the True Blueberry much better and that's from running about 4 females of each. The original BB was very "runt" like and yielded very small buds. The taste was mediocre as were the effects. Was a big let down. The TB yielded larger, denser buds, MUCH better tasting - strong anise taste that one won't forget. The buzz wasn't super strong but it was euphoric and enjoyable. Overall though, considering his reputation (this was about 4 years ago) I was disappointed with DJ Short based on this admittedly small sample size.

Real blueberry is among the most difficult strains to grow. Be advised. I'd imagine it would be easier in an organic Brix mix. Most people feed too much phosphorous and/or everything as a general rule. As such it's a strain I'd be wary of what others have to say about it. No offense to the two posters above of course, I just think you need to dive in and do it if you want that nice blueberry taste. There are some great phenotypes out there of blueberry, truly amazing in quality.

original blueberry is much more forgiving from what ive seen and understood.

i had some of the true blueberry that was very good about 10 years ago. ive had one bad one since then that claimed to be the "true blueberry" who knows tho.

but i do know someone who grows Dj shorts original blueberry non stop. Its always good bud, but he really has to baby it to get the blueberry taste out of it. he used to grow in soil, and when he switched his grow to hydro it changed the bud. he hasnt been able to get the taste back in hydro(he claims he fixed it, he didnt tho). when it turned out right he was able to sell it at outrageous prices.

he tried cocoa kush too, it sucked ass i thought, the high was lack-luster, and taste got old fast. i had some very nice Flo once from someone else tho! thats part of the blueberry parentage.

i bet the major difference is that the true blueberry must turn out a little more sativa. let us know what u choose im curious :)

EDIT: what about using a hybrid as long as u get the taste u want??
blue cheese has that nice berry taste blended with the cheesy skunk... its a VERY good strain. and very popular. it would be much easier to grow!

i enjoy Dinafem's Blue widow a LOT but it doesnt have any sort of berry taste.

im posting this to point out that u may want to look into hybrids... like G13 blueberry gum. i bet that one would turn out nice and tasty with the right phenotype.

I have pondered this same question. My first experience with Blueberry was about 10-13 years ago and was awesome. Beautiful blue green, dense nugs, coated in trichs. The stone was euphoric with an intense bodybuzz. The taste was off fresh blueberry mixed with a little hashy musk...I wish I could have gotten a cut! Perhaps I will pick up some seed once things cool down with the customs issues :-/
