Do dogs that ran away come back?

Unfortunately its not even worth it to rescue a dog anymore. Not only do the puppy-farms spit out thousands of unhealthy inbred puppies for in-the-mall-pet-stores to sell to yuppies for $1699 for a toy yorky, but the pounds required $92 for adoption fee (dont get me wrong, thats entirely understandable) but around here they send out 2 shelter employees out to your house to inspect it of any issues. for instance a fence shorter than 6ft is considered non-ideal for adoptions. 30+ people get to 'apply' for the dog and the shelter decides who the lucky winner is. Thats not fair at all. I've had three dogs since puppies and two adopted. The adopted dogs, althought I loved them just as much, both died within 3 years of adoption. They lie about the age to con you into saving it. I feel like they should be honest and willing to adopt the dog to the first person to show up with a steady job and enough money to care/feed. Its fucked up. Its like going to mcdonalds and being first in line, but having the mexican at the window tell you to wait a few days because her friend is stopping by to apply for the last cheeseburger and she owes her one. Some pounds are more considerate but around here, they're dog killing crooks that pull as many strings as they can. Sometimes people forget what they started out to do in the first place: rescue animals. Pounds are more like torture. I hate to say it, but youre better off finding a puppy in a local newspaper or craigslist ad so you can get to know the breeder and the puppies mom and dad. Without this information, you could regret the commitment. $300+ and you get exactly what you want. It hurts to think about all of the pain and suffering these dogs have to go through just because a 27 year old alcoholic white trash whore decided she was bored with her 5 year old dog, and wanted a 'newer model'.

Sorry about your luck. We all learn from other peoples mistakes. Give it a few months or years and find another dog to reward with a loving family.

I know exactly where you are coming from. I wanted to adopt this beautiful 6 year old Rottweiler but since there were several people "checking him out" we couldn't adpot him. I don't like the waiting list. I do believe if you are the first in line, have adequate space, time, and money you should be the one to take home the dog. It' ticks me off when they start playing favorites. There is no time for perfection or favorites when a dog is in a shelter. It just prolongs it's time in the shelter when if could be home with a loving family.

I love animals. I don't think they need a rich family with a huge back yard. They need adequate space and a loving family. So if the 10 year old beagle is being checked out by a 65 year old widow in a farm house she should take the dog over some yuppy who has a large manacured lawn who doesn't have time for his own kids.
