Do grow lights loose brightness with extension cords?

i would assume under 50ft is fine. But when you start getting long does that affect the output of you lamp? Or just get a bigger gauge? Thanks
I want to run my appolo 600 watt my/hps downstairs. Maybe 50-75 ft

I believe you use slightly more power,

to the point the cable heats up,

best not to leave it coiled

ps get the larger gauge

You get voltage drop with long cable runs. We are talking a run of 100ft of 14AWG for a 5% drop.

You can work out the volt drop yourself:

http://www.rapidtables.com/calc/wire/voltage-drop-calculator.htm

Larger cables give you less drop.

Nah you're right too. Wire has resistance and heats up in itself just by conducting electricity. Coiled wires can heat up to the point of being dangerous if they have heavy loads going through them.
