Do I have to keep EC meter in water?

Hello,

I have this EC meter: http://www.tdsmeter.com/products/com100.html and this pH meter: http://www.tdsmeter.com/products/ph200.html

The guy at the store said that after I use it for the first time from there after I have to constantly keep it in a glass full of water without the cap.

But, it the EC and pH meter user's manual it says that after each measurement you have to put the cap back on.

What should I do? Do you have such a EC or pH meter? What do or would you do?

Thank you.

I quote from the manual:

"Shake any excess water off the meter. For best results, rinse with distilled or de-ionized water after each usage and wipe with a tissue. Put the cap back on. Store the meter standing upright to ensure complete saturation of the sensor."

This is the last step in "TAKING MEASUREMENTS" section of the manual.

I shake it of a rinse with tap water. PH pen must be kept wet. Most have a sponge in cap. I do use storage solution for it. I've had real shitty luck with PH pens so now do it exactly the way the manufacturer recommends for warranty return lol.
