Do I Need A Stronger Fan?

I am using a 400cfm 6" fan for a bathroom grow room, and I have it ducted 20ft away from the room and through a carbon filter with the fan at the end sucking the air out a window. There is pressure, but nothing like a strong vacuum; almost a soft breeze that barely allows a peice of paper to stick to the hood. The size of my hood is designed for 6" ducting, how much suction do I need to properly cool my HPS and MH lamps? Do I need to place the fan closer to the light hood and place the carbon filter towards the end of the ducting instead. I understand some attach the carbon filter directly on the light hood itself, but the way I've been doing it seems to work as well leaving one side of the light hood that is sucking in air exposed.

* sucking air into exposed side of light hood > (Light Hood) < ducting facing out of room < (carbon filter) < more ducting leading out of the carbon filter into fan facing towards the window < (fan) < air out the window

You need the fan sucking on one side of your light hood and the filter on the other side. The exhaust isn't as important except we would prefer not to have a lot of resistance.
carbon filter > LIGHT HOOD < 400CFM FAN < straight exhaust 6 inch metal duct for 20 feet with as few bends as possible.

Yeah that's probably why too, I had the ducting dropping 3 feet from the light hood to the ground, then traveling 3 feet upwards at a 45 degree angle out a window; and I kept the carbon filter off of the other side of the hood due to the tight space I have the hood squeezed into. Also should have bought a grow tent, I have the light hood toggle bolted into my ceiling and not sure how much more weight it can handle. I mean technically it would work I guess if it were something crazy at the end like a 1000cfm fan; I understand how it is supposed to work but my options are limited.

I second @Bubblin 's question. Where the hell did you find an inline carbon scrubber? Did you modify it by adding a flange, or is that how it came? I don't even know where to start fixing your setup... I applaud you for wanting to grow but I would suggest doing a lot more homework. You may think the worst that could happen is your plant could die but we are playing with water and electricity in our gardens so there is also the risk of fire or injury.

phat filter no?

i think the lads are right maybe get a tent, i love the idea of a shower grow, but the space is limited, you could buy a cheap tent or an expensive one depending on you budget what ever you like, however i think it will work better for you,

if you just a one time grow buy cheap ass tent,

only thing i would look at is the pole size of the tent, if buy ebay amazon, just check feed back make sure you read through all the way to get a good idea, not some bs blogger ahhaah

Or buy a "cheap-ass tent" and just use it for like, years, if you're careful. Or is that "cheap ass-tent?"

You don't need a tent in my opinion just some 2x4 framing to hold everything up. Especially if I am setting up a grow in a rental for someone I always build a 2x4 frame on the inside of the room to mount stuff to so that when it is time to pull stakes and leave there is no damage. If I want to attach something I keep building with plyboard, 1x4 planks and etc. With that white paint you really don't have to spend much to make that an excellent grow that you can wash the walls with a mop and some bleach.

Here are some pics:

ya on the floor like that, you gonna suck all your cool air out before it cools the room, get on ceiling and tighten them ducts with duct tape were they straight would help out very much,,gotta do what you gotta do,i suggest this find a ceiling joist and get a couple 4in long hooks ,screw into sheet rock into joist,,then take zip ties and go around your filter and then take another zip tie and go under the one around filter and hang it from the hooks,,stretch out your vent were it doesnt sag,and when you have one end or other nice and uniform take duct tape and tape whole mess loosly around it,,loose because if you need it for something else ,the duct tape wont rip it,,masking tape is best,,all you doing is getting it off floor and inline tighten the vents,,just that alone should double your air movement

Even that isn't going to help him. He somehow has an inline filter (light/filter/fan) so he's losing all his suction at the filter and isn't even filtering the air efficiently.

Im thinkin hydroton in the toilet and hang the light over the shitter, just flush to water, ditch the inline filter and yer golden.
