i got my seeds to crack and they all show root now. i know i put them in the dirt. now do i keep them under light or do they come up by their selves. when do i need light. now or later? thanks
Yes, as soon as you've got em in soil get em under lights. Standard fluorescents, or specialized grow-types (CFL's or compact fluorescents) are just what the doctor ordered.

Agreed, light on soil. I should add that I put my sprouts immediately under my 400W MH for veg. It worked wonderfully. HOWEVER, my seeds were germinated for a LONG TIME, 2-2 1/2 inches long before I planted them. That could affect the whateverness of the situation.
Actually, the CFL's im talking about are the high-quality VHO grow-types. They're alot more than 4$ (mine cost me about 100), and are self-ballasted. They screw into the large mogul-base lamp sockets (the kind in your HID setup) and are available in warm and daylight spectrums. The common wattages are 125 and 200 (as far as i can tell) though they used to be available in 95 and 135. The lumen count they produce is worlds higher than the 4$ ones you speak of, up in the 5000 range. Ill get a picture of mine and ill post it some time this week.
