Do I need to spend $200 for a t5 fixture or am I wasting my money?

Double check the Home Depot light bank for its warranty .. Many people fail to realise a good light at the Hydro store should come with a 5 year warranty and if it does not then its a cheap t-5 unit thats worthless 9 out of ten times not ..

Not all light is the same and as well with lighting fixtures , another aspect is aesthetics .. A professional grow room looks a bit funny with Industrial fixtures and many of the light banks sold at Home Depot are made to be recessed and built in a ceiling .. So what you really get is half of a light , and most have to be wired as well and these offer no settings or power switches ........

Shit if its an issue financially you could just buy lights of america T-8 48 " shop lights for under 14 a piece ... They would be mounted at an angle
Point taken professor. I've got a 600w digital ballast w/ an air cooled reflector so I could just use a metal halide bulb in there but I was trying to conserve energy as much as I can. It sounds like at this point, I'll be using the metal halide bulb for veg as I don't ave enough cheddar for a t5 fixture at the moment....next grow though for sure.

Lumens. You're better off with bowl reflectors and spiral CFL bulbs than a T8.
Ya I used those little 23w and 42w cfl's for veg years ago but those little fuckers are pricey. I think I spent upwards of $80 on cfl bulbs and the gear to wire them into my cab. For that kinda money, I'd just rather get a t5 fixture but thanks for the tip on avoiding the t8.

Now we are talking .. I dont advocate using any T-fixtures for bloom unless thats all there is .. Best of Karma to your grow
