Do it yourself Ph adjuctment...

Does anyone have experience using household products to adjust pH?

I've read you can use vinegar and baking soda, but does anyone have a ratio to use for adjustment?

For example; Lets say you have four liters of water/nutrients that you plan on giving some plants (in soil) with a pH of 6.7 and want to bring it down to 5.7.

The question is this; how much white vinegar per liter of water do you need to bring the pH down one full point, or does it even work like that? I'm not looking for exact science, just a reasonable starting point.

I've never used vinegar to bring PH down, but I do currently use lemon juice. But because tap water doesn't always keep the same PH level, I would say invest in a PH meter preferably one that checks the tds level as well.

You have to remember that pH is not linear. i.e.pH4 is 10x more acid then pH5 which is 10X more acid than pH6 etc.

I use lemon juice to lower the PH of my water. I usually mix up a 5gal bucket of water with a PH at 8.0 or a little above, and add about 2 tbls of lemon juice to lower it to an acceptable PH.

I use vinegar. One eye dropper full brings a gallon from 7.6 down to 6.8. I have no idea how much the eye dropper holds but it doesnt really matter since I test it anyway.
