11” or 12” away from the canopy in only one spot only with that 600 HPS. Blue diodes we’re pointed to several years ago as the source of “Hash Tips” where the top of the bud was bleached white. Running 400 watts white based Boards at 14” in a 21/2 x 5 tent.

Does that mean that this 480w led at 2.7 efficiency will actually produce significantly more useable light than a 600w HPS at 1.5 efficiency?

Also, what is it about lights like The Lumatek 465w Lumatek LED Grow Light - ZEUS 465W Pro 2.9 | 220-240V | IP65 | Osram & Lumileds Diodes (kogan.com) that makes them worth more than double the price of the Migro light above.

Basically what I am mainly asking is taking into account that heat is no issue is it worthwhile switching to LEDs to save power or will I still need 600w of leds to get the same grow results.

intensity and distance. You will need higher output LED's to replace 600w HPS.

Look to Elevated Lighting, HLG, Maxisun or even Mars or Spider Farmer for very good quality. Best Deal Thread has bunches of cheap boards and Bars from Amazon. Most times you get what you pay for. Get familiar with what available. About 60% watts that you ran with HPS should give same results but 40% less electricity.

The Diablo will be for summer month runs. My tent with the HID topped 83-85° during the warmer months(sept-Nov, North East region), in my basement. It'll come in klutch for times like that! I also run a hydro set up, dwc(will run rdwc in future), I run low to mid 70's with my HID right now during Flower (currently on week 14), not high 80's like some. It has its pros & cons considering I need my bucket temps to stay 60-65°.

The only benefits of HID are much lower initial cost and simplicity (it's a light bulb on a ballast).

And even then that’s only a benefit if you’re starting off lighting more than a sq meter, the way prices have come down. You can get a 300w led for $200+- but if you’re trying to light a 4x4, a 5x5 or a whole room cheap (and can afford the running costs) you can get 1000w hids with bulbs in air cooled hoods for <$200
