Most root products are a biological inoculation, not a true nutrient. I think people are getting hung up on words, nutrient vs supplement.
Some contain elements, such as copper or IBA'S, that promote root division, which can help develop a finer root mass vs big thick roots. It's the fine root hairs that actually absorb nutes, so more fine roots =more nutrient potential. Letting soil dry between watering promotes root division. I've noticed running lower ph(5.4-5.6) in hydro seems promote root development in clones and young veg. Supposedly lower ph promotes cell division due to acidic scaring of the root cells. If I could have found the article iread, I would have linked it. I've seen explosive root growth just going from a 6.0ph to a 5.6ph.
