Do tall thin pots yield tall thin plants?

Will plants grown in thin pots grow thin with less side branching? Does the width or circumference of the pot make a big difference? I was looking at some killer plants grown in 2 liter hempy bottles and they pretty much stayed the width of the container. This could be one more way for me to control growth.

When it comes to a generic question like this, it is really a matter of genetics. Will the plant stay the width of the container? It will be strain dependent and something that you would have to experiment with to see if it works for what you are growing.

With that said, in my experience, a taller, skinnier potter has produced a skinnier plant than when I have the same strain in a wider pot.

Not so much the width as the overall volume...rootbound plants stretch and don't develop branches. I did read that deeper pots for seedlings result in a higher female to male ratio (gives the taproot more vertical space, which somehow affects the balance of hormones that determine the gender of the plant).

These are likely single cola genetics.. I thought this was a really cool pic. I'd like to grow plants like this. My plants look nothing like this :)

I did one grow in tall narrow pots (2-gallon) instead of the short 5-gallon ones, and found that the plants liked the depth. They were smaller than those grown in 5-gal, but not necessarily narrower. Strain was GSC. As others have said, it is probably strain dependent.

While genetics trumps, ultimately the combination of light and nutrients will either allow the genetics to reach its' full potential, or not

Most people (myself included for a long time) do not provide adequate lighting, and wind up with disappointing results

At the end of the day BOTH are important

I can't figure out what's on top of the 2 liter bottles. The black parts. Do you know? The grower talks about a "soil cap".. Hmm..

ive grown in tall 3 gal pots and short/fat 4.7 gal pots. I get taller plants in the 4.7gal pot (I hit 6'3" plants), and the harvest is about 2zips more in the 4.7gal vs the 3 gal.

Actually sativa domanant strains tend to grow tall and lanky but can use scrog to encourage less top growth and more side growth. You can size your pots by how short you want the plants to be.

I use 3.5 gallon grow pots for short bushy indica dominant strains and my next grow is gonna be a sativa domanant strain so I will use a 5 gallon just hope I don't end up regretting that. I am gonna scrog it and see if I can pick up some tricks with it.
