Do These PH Testers Work?

Those cheap soil testers can be good. For a common product, there is a surprising number them that read incorrectly from the start, though. I've gotten digital ones that start with the wrong value when it should be at 7 so buy locally and save your receipt. As long as you keep one of the capsule type kits on hand, you can check the meter's accuracy from time to time and you shouldn't have any problems. Some stores will even accept a returned meter that isn't reading right after you've used it awhile so if you buy from a great business you could have a working Ph tester for life.

The best "cheap" one I've used is the little red/black digital Hanna (model 98103 I think), about $30 but you'll need to pick up some reference solution, mine needed calibrating at least once/week but it does offer replaceable probes.

I have one of those, but I only use the moisture meter part of it. I've messed around with the ph meter on it and it's worthless.

I've had one of those cheap 3 in one meters just like the one shown on that page and agree that the "ph" function on it is useless.

I've been wondering about some of the "ph" meters found on this page http://homeharvest.com/soiltesting.htm Has any one here used any of them and what did you think of it? I'm mainly interested in the 3 in the $25 to $75 price range. Any one got any input on them?????

FYI, if you look through the ebay search pages I linked (if you set it to 200 per page,it's only 2 pages), every one of the testers on home harvest are listed, and for cheaper. In some cases, much cheaper. Just thought you might want to know... Thanks for the addition to the thread, I really hadn't searched much except Ebay.

Dear God, (sorry I couldn't help but make that smart ass remark)

Like "Mother's Finest" touched on... I'd really like to purchase my ph meter from a local source so I can keep the reciept and take it back to the store if there's any problem with it. With that in mind I think the second best option would be to purchase it direct from "HomeHarvest" even if it means paying a little bit more. IDK, maybe it's just me but I'm not real big on making this kind of purchase on Ebay. Especially if there's a chance it's not really going to do what I want it to and may want to return it.

I've seen some of those other HomeHarvest products on that page I linked to in Ace Hardware, Home Depot and some of my other local garden/nursery centers. That's the kind of places I like to buy these kinds of things. As much as possible I try to avoid doing business with cannabis specific stores (either locally or on line). It's a security issue.

Amen.

LOL, I'm not God, just his servant :-P
I totally agree with buying stuff on a local level, preferably not a hydro shop. I try to buy as much as I can from Lowe's and Home D. I also agree on the exchangabilty of stuff when you buy local, sometimes a return on Ebay can be a pain.
The only reason I like Ebay is because of the anonymous nature, and the prices are usually better.
Thanks for the heads up on getting the testers @ hardware stores etc, I'll have to check into that...
