Do you ever feel kinda bummed out when you chop a plant?

I know it might sound bit silly...but I was thinking about how taking care of even a single plant for several months seems to "bond" me to it. I look forward to the smoke, but, man....after all the time and attention and everything involved to grow a plant and seeing it everyday -maybe several times a day....then I harvest it and it instantly switches from the goal of keeping something living to its fullest, into becoming like a plant-mortician!

I swear...these flowers are looking at me! ;)

Yes I have to admit I feel bad cutting my girls down ...just because taking care of them and protecting them investing tons of time and effort ....after many many years of growing I still get a lil sad when I go to cut there heads off .....or go out after the last day of harvest and there's nothing left where there was a jungle before .......but that all goes away when I see the people I grow for feeling better and I take a toke myself ....I also tell myself If I didn't do it nature would ......so to answer your question YES ...I put lots of heart and effort into my grows so it's a weird feeling to start the harvest ...lol ....until I realize il be trimming til my hands are numb and drying and curing and processing for months ....so it makes it a lil easier to chop

That's what I hate is the trimming. I got fairly severe arthritis all over but bad in my hands. Cramp up so bad that even scissor hash doesn't help. Got me a Trimpro Unplugged recently and tho I know the buds won't look as good and they'll get beat up more than I'd like I gotta use it or hire a trimmer. Should be doing my first run with it this weekend I hope. Got one plant that looks about right.

I have arthritis too and have been considering getting and electric scissors but the blades are too short on the ones i've found. wonder it barbers trimmers would work. unfortunately trimming machines seem to remove to much and I do enjor scissor and finger hash

I like my scissor hash too but should get lots off the blade on the trimpro. A buddy back east has one and he told me it needs cleaning every 2 - 4 loads which should really slow things down. I've always used Fiskars fine point scissors and I get too fussy trying to get every bit of sugar leaf out of the buds. I get great looking buds but it takes forever to get the job done. I found a different style of fiskars in the kitchen section of a Home Hardware store and bought a pair to try out. They come in a 7" version too and the grip is different so maybe switching back and forth would be easier on the snipping hand.

I had phoned the hydro store 5 hours away to place an order for lots of stuff and asked the owner if he ever got used trimmers and he happened to have the one I bought. Used once and the guy who bought it cut 4 big holes in the bottom of the catch tray so trim could fall through into a big pail. He traded it in for a $3000 power model after using it to do one crop of 20 or so plants. Mine sold for $700 new and he gave it to me for half price. I just cut a sheet of parchment paper to cover the holes and it should work like new. The guy did a nice job on the holes so it looks like it came like that.

:peace:

I get a little crazy about removing leaves from my buds and it takes me about 3-4 hours to trim a plant. I use a plastic handle scissors to trim and may stretch the job out 3 or 4 days.with 6 plants (3 flowering and 3 veg) I can keep the medicine bowl filled and growing enough high quality medicine for myself and my SO is all I care about

I get sentimental too. They're my girls and I hate to see em go. If I couldn't smoke any more I'd still grow em because they are more than that to me.
But remember these are annuals. They live less than a year in most cases and with you they get a much healthier and happier life, plus a solid chance at continuing their genetics.
Feel better knowing they weren't chewed on by bugs deer and predatory diseases like in the wild. They didn't have to compete with nasty weeds and fungus.
In the end they reward you directly for your hard work in equal measure.

Not sure if you guys have seen this, but the comment about getting the buds bashed about reminded me of this gadget. Not sure if it's good or not but it looks it!

without seeing whats left in the catch pan it is hard to tell. seems more like it's targeted for a large scale commercial grow where the trimmings would be sold a shake.it did leave behind leaves that I would have manually trimmed off and used for extracts.
